Replying to: abennett (May 15, 2004 8:37 am) Hi Alice!   Saw your request on the website.   I just purchased two Prius vehicles.   The carpeted mats sold by Toyota may look nice, but they are not practical.   Toyota does sell a high endurance/high end rubber mat...but they are not out for the Prius as of yet.   The company that makes the best high end rubber car mat with grooves that are sold in all the car stores...is called Weathertech....they are a Canadian company...   They make them for the Prius. You can buy them direct through the internet at www.weathertech.com.   A full set (front and back)..in matching colors...runs about $90 foir black and $100 for beige...plus about $8 shipping for each. I got a black set for my silver car (grey interior) and a beige set for my black car(has beige interior). It lasts forever and is worth every penny. Go down to your neighborhood MENARDS,LOWES, or BUILDER'S SQUARE and purchase a universal mat (vertical ribbed) that can be cut down to fit the 04 PRIUS. It cost less than $4.00. It works very well for the back to cover TOYOTA'S somewhat overpriced mat. Let's all save $ $$$$$$$!!!

One quirk I've come across with the 04 PRIUS is a strange baffling noise that seems to irritate the ears when you open various window combinations. Sometimes it can be quite annoying. I'd be curious to know if anyone else has noticed this oddity. It doesn't do it all the time nor does it do it at all speeds. I've been thinking it has something to do with the aerodynamics of the car or possibly because it's a hatchback for 04. Replying to: railroadjames (Sep 23, 2004 9:37 am) James, let me take a wild guess that this only happens when you lower the rear windows and leave the front windows up. This is very common on modern cars. One term I've heard to describe this is called "helicoptering". The solution to the problem seems to be to lower the front windows as well and this usually eliminates the problem.   If you use the Search Forums button up at the top of the webpage and use helicoptering as your search term for Message Text, you'll find a lot of messages about this problem. Replying to: devsienna (Oct 07, 2004 12:22 am) Since this problem, as I stated, I wondered if the aftermarket rain shields that can be applied over each window of the PRIUS could possibly eliminate this baffling wind noise. I'm not sure the helicopter noise is one and the same as was mentioned. Maybe it has something to do with the interior cavity of the "hatchback" design. One thing for sure, it's annoying. Greetings! Proud owner of 2005 Prius who lives in urban area with tons of bugs in the summer time. Anyone seen a bug guard for the Prius? Did not see anything on Toyota.com site. Hi,hopefully, I'll be taking delivery on my 2005 Prius soon...I had a concern about the tires....I live in the Chicago area--we're known to get a little snow from time to time (LOL) How do the standard tires respond in the snow? Greetings,   I've been considering the Prius for its mileage and ample cargo space but I'm concerned about 'bottoming out' on the dirt roads I frequently travel. The advertised ground clearance is as low as they come. Any suggestions whether or not the ground clearance can be modified via changes to suspension, or perhaps different tires?   regards,   Jim

The original equipment tires are O.K. except on wet roads and (lately) winter snow & ice conditions. There are better tires out there that would improve roadability. You will sacrifice MPG's for those tires I'm told and that seems to be the general opinion. So...my next set of treads will be Goodyears. Culliganman (hope this helps)
