I waited for my 2004, package #9 for 4 months. I love the car and have found it interesting to follow the news at Edmonds. I have had the car about 1 week and it is all that I expected it to be. When reading some of the reviews, i wondered if some of the people exaggerated. Not so. This is truly a great car.

I've owned my Prius for 1 1/2 days and so far I love it. I paid $2,500 over MSRP and went whole hog - package 9! It does seem that for all that money that Toyota could have offered leather seats, electric seat controls and more variable seat positions. I'd like to find fitted mats for the floors and the hatch area. Any ideas? The parts department told me that Toyota doesn't have any and I don't want to stain the carpets.

Has anyone tried putting a kayak rack on their Prius? The antenna is a pain - it looks as if it will get in the way. I would have preferred the antenna integrated into the windshield but perhaps the GPS wouldn't work as well and I really love the voice directions.

I GOT AFTER MARKET LEATHER SEATS FOR 1299. THEY DID A GREAT JOB. APPARENTLY TOYOTA TECHNICIANS DID THE WORK. I WANTED THEM HEATED BUT THEY SAID THEY DID NOT OFFER THEM. I AGREE, I WOULD HAVE LIKED MORE OBTIONS ON THE SEAT ADJUSTMENTS.

I'm a happy '04 owner and have been for over six months!
I was fortunate to get one a month after they came out. The pkg. #1 model with all the tax incentives made my actual cost about $18,600. Now, that seems like a steal of a deal!
It's sort of hard to relate to people waiting 4-6 months for a Prius but I think they'll think it is worth it.
It slays me to see people talking about 'recovering' the extra costs in mpg returns.
They seem to exclude the bigger picture. This car is doing the right thing at the right time considering the present state of national poltics
economy and environmental setbacks.

I've had my Driftwood Pearl 2004 since mid-December. It's got about 10,000 miles on it. I'm averaging about 44 mpg here in sunny southern CA. Everyone loves my car (except my 16 yr old daughter who thinks it's an "ugly egg"). Most important though is the trend this is starting in automaker's minds. If we can all drive cars that run this cleanly, we may even eventually be able to breath the air here in LA.

It's been 6 months now since I had my Prius. I just hit 10k miles and did some oil change and tire rotation at home today. I used to get 43-44 mpg when I first got it, now I'm averaging 48 mpg. Everytime I fill up, people asked me about my mileage. My 18 year old kid will occationally borrow my car just to impress his friends about the navigation capabilities. I have no regrets ordering one when it first came out.

Floor mats, etc by rpgolfer

abennet,
I carry my golf clubs/push cart in the rear cargo area at all times. My golf shoes get loaded up with grass clippings so I put down a couple of sheets folded to fit the rear cargo area. I have the Prius mat back there at the bottom and it stays clean because of the sheets. I know from looking at the interior cloth color it seems just a matter of time before I'll be uttering, "Oh my gosh!" and a stain appears. I bought my car 2/6/04 and with the wet roads comes wet shoes so I put a folded sheet on top of the front floor mats.
A word of caution: When you first get seated it's tempting to push on the console to shift your weight and get your backside comfortable. RESIST THE URGE !! I found myself doing that then I soon realized the possibility of having a wobbly console.
I'm considering what kind of tools to carry with me above the spare tire. Does anyone have any suggestions? John1701a, any ideas? I know there probably isn't many repairs one can do, but it's a consideration.
Thanks,
Rich
