So far, so good by happyhybrid

I took possession today of my '06 Civic Hybrid. Paid $22,100 ($300 below MSRP) at O'Daniel Honda in Omaha, NE. No hassles, no waiting, and friendly, helpful sales staff. Worked with both Dave and Joe. Also drove Accord Hybrid and Civic LX at the same dealer, and an '06 Passat 2.0T at another. I was impressed by all these cars for different reasons.

Why did I buy the HCH? 1) Cool technology, 2) super low emissions, 3) Honda reliability, 4) after driving fire-breathing gas-snorting sports coupes and SUVs, it's finally time I grow up. Our nation commutes in a cushy silo of comfort, easily forgetting that in doing this we rely on oil from distant lands where people don't like us much, where our boys and girls fight and die. We all bear some responsibility for this, and it's about time I took mine. I really don't feel like I'm sacrificing anything. The HCH seems to be a great car, and I'm very happy so far. As far as the cost justification of the hybrid vs. Civic LX or EX, that's really not a primary concern for me, though the tax credit is certainly welcome. It should be better. The president's energy plan, overall, is a sorry disappointment.

I'll follow up with my feedback after driving for a month or so. I'm gonna make a game out of getting the best mpg I can-- is 50 possible? Maybe not, we'll see! Whatever the mileage turns out to be, it's pretty likely to be more than double what I got in my previous car.

I picked up my HCH last night. I got the car for $22,274 and mud guards were installed at Renner Motors in Columbus, IN. I had to put down a $500 deposit Dec. 26, and the vechicle came in this past weekend. Everything went really smooth, and I actually got a lot more than I expected on Trade-in (2004 CR-V - They actually use Kelley Blue Book values).

I am looking forward to the improved mileage I will get over my CR-V (Which was great as well)!

06 HCH Manufacturer Installed tire Models?! by duwayne

I just took possession of my 06 HCH. When I was checking out the wheels, I noted the tire model (Dunlop S/P 37 AS). I looked them up online and the only place I could find them was on some discount tire site.
It made me a little leery because the site said the tires were discontinued (selling for $40 per tire).
Is this the tire other 06 HCH owners have on their cars? I would hope that Honda of Japan wouldn't be putting disposable (cheap) tires on their cars? When I asked Honda of America they weren't much help. They just said you either get bridgestones or dunlops -didn't know what specific model.

Original equipment tires installed on many brands and models of new cars are often not sold in retail tire stores. Tire manufacturers frequently supply unique model name and model number tires to differentiate OEM and aftermarket models.

Thanks. I got a reply from Goodyear and actually it is a Dunlop SP 31 - not SP 37. Looked like a seven to me! Not much info on the performance rating of this tire out there.

Anyone have experiences of trying to get financing at the dealership you want to share? Are they generally reasonable rates or do they try to force you into higher rate loans since the hybrids are so hot right now?

You are better off going to your credit union and getting pre approved. With that in hand you have a better chance of negotiating a good rate. Be sure it is a straight interest loan. GMAC used to have loans that your payments all went to interest for the first couple years. Then when you thought you had the vehicle paid down it was still close to the purchase price.

My advice, if at all possible is to save for that new car and not pay any lending institution.

Right now Honda financing doesn't have any deals on Civics or Accords. Basically it is Ridgelines that have good leasing deals.

I guess that with money being as expensive as it is, it's kinda hard to subvent rates.

Most of our customers are using credit unions which are about a point below Honda.

FYI: A tax CREDIT of $2,100 is worth exactly $2,100 unless you don't owe that much in taxes, in which case you can't afford one of these cars, OR if you are subject to the Alernative Minimum Tax, in which case you need not sweat a couple thousand bucks. This would be true in nearly all cases.

To say a tax credit is only worth $525 is to be off in the math by $1575, or, maybe a year's worth of gasoline.

Be patient ,it's not on the IRS web site yet,but the law was signed in august by our venerated pres. As of january 06 you will be able to save $2100 from the civic hybrid purchase right off what you owe to the feds at tax time, and if you don't owe this much ,you will get a refund on the income taxes that you have paid thru the year, and if you don't have an income you will get a credit for the next time you owe taxes, capice?
In Connecticut the sale taxe on the Civic Hybrid is eliminated, saving me over $1200,so btw the two incentives($1200+$2100) it saves me at least $3200. In my case buying the hybrid made more sense.
