#6 of 23 Hybrid Vehicles - weekly chat?
by Sylvia

Due to the popularity in this board we are considering adding a weekly Hybrid Vehicles chat. Interested? What night of the week would work? Time (give time zone). We are working on getting some industry analysts and guests in for the chats as well.

.. besides this one. And that doesn't count the 5 archived hybrid discussions and the one(1) discussion Edmunds staff retired, "Hybrids, Are They Up to the Chore?"
Obviously, these is a direction the car makers are moving towards.

There are so many hybrid boards now that sometimes items are repeated and sometimes is it hard to find something.
How does one post something that adresses more than one forum without cross posting?
How does one search several forums at the same time for relevant items?
How come when posts are deleted responses to the posts are not also deleted. Trying to read a forum after it has had items deleted is very confusing sometimes.
YMMV,

Not THE host, but A host...
Wow, lots of questions there. First, it's "poster's choice" - you can just look at what's been going on recently in a discussion and pick the one that's going closest to the direction of your intended post, or in which there are participating members who you feel are most likely to reply... it's really best to pick only one, since duplicate conversations are hard to follow, and split the conversation up, but as long as you stick with the basic theme of the discussion, you can choose.
You can use the keyword search at the left, of course, and all related items will be displayed. If you use the advanced search feature and want to search the message text, you must select the radio button indicating that you want to search the text rather than just the titles. Then there's a drop-down menu under which you can select all boards, a specific board (like Hybrids or SUVs), or just the discussion that you started in.
Finally (whew!), we do try to delete responses to deleted posts, especially when it's been a flame war situation. But unfortunately, it's pretty time consuming to check each discussion for replies to deleted posts, and then get rid of them all. We'd rather focus our attention on getting the discussions back on track. If you ever see a problem, though, you are welcome to e-mail the board host to alert him/her to take a look.
I hope this helps answer some of your questions!

Hi MidCow -
I meant to reply yesterday and was sidetracked (my bad).
There are a number of discussions, so it depends on how you are accessing them. I find it easiest to go to the Hybrid Vehicles board http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.ef27a26 (view all discussions) to see ALL of the discussions on the list. The Hybrid Vehicles board is the one-stop point for all the hybrid discussions. I subscribe to the BOARD and not the individual discussions. That way, when a new discussion pops up it is automatically added to my Message Center.
Yes, you can find the Prius listed in hatchbacks and in the Owner's clubs as well - same discussion, just linked in a few additional places.
As for cross-posting...here's what I'm doing. If the discussion is about the Toyota Prius and a series of posts gets going about the Prius v. ???, I start a new discussion and move the posts into it. We try to keep the content of the discussion to title. Many times new themes get started in a discussion and deserve a discussion of their own. I'm also encouraging people to start new discussions.
As for deleting posts. Many times a reply to a post is off-topic, flaming, etc. In that case the offending or off-topic post is removed, but the other posts remain.
Hope that helps.
#12 of 23 Time to chat
by Sylvia
Jun 30, 2004 (3:41 pm)
We now have a weekly chat - Tuesdays 5-6pm PT/8-9pm ET. I was surprised by the small number of attendees given the activity in the hybrid discussions. Is this just a bad time for everyone? What would be better? Earlier in the day (noon EST) or later in the evening?
We will be brining in some industry experts to this chat, so I want to make sure I have a time that works for the majority of you.
Thanks!
#13 of 23 we need a Hybrid Resale thread........
by larsb

One the hosts killed a spirited resale value debate on "Hybrids in The News" and said this:
"we already have a resale value discussion"
As far as I can see, we do not have a "Hybrid-specific" resale thread - could you or someone please start one for us?
Tanks !!!
