Working the Numbers by nappie1

Hello.
I have been trying to come to a final number in dealing for an X3 3.0 and I think I have been playing with these numbers so long, I've confused myself.
When figuring out my cap cost, I have taken the wholesale price plus the dealer profit that the dealer and I agreed upon and added the Deposit, Acq. Fee, 1st month payment and the iPod adapter that we want added.
Is this all correct? I am unsure if the amount that is "total due at signing" (i.e. 1st payment, deposit, etc...) is included in the cap cost.

To lay it out for you here is what I am working with.
MSRP of 38,395
MF - .0014
61%
Wholesale price of 35,385 (including Maco and Training Fee)
Dealer profit - 1600
Mats- 125
iPod - 300
Acq. Fee - 825
Deposit - 400
1st Month Payment - 400
So the adjusted cap cost that I am using is
39,035.
I then have a trade in of 5,080 to make that adjusted cap cost 33,955.

I added the mats and the iPod into the MSRP when working out my calculations so maybe that is where I am off.
Msrp 38395+125+300=38,820(.61)=23,680.2

Here are my calcs.
(33955-23680.2)/36 = 285.41
(33955+23680.2)(.0014)=80.69
for a total payment of $366.10 pre-tax.

The dealer is coming up with $385.43 pre tax. Not a big difference, but an extra $19.33 a month over 36 months means almost $700.

I have confirmed with the dealer that there are no other markups or fees and that the difference is how I am calculating it out.
We haven’t picked up the car as it is still at the VPC, so I haven’t had a chance to sit down and see how they are working their numbers out, but I would like to get some help here before I go in.

TIA for the help!

Without running the numbers... the first thing I see is you are adding the IPOD adapter and the mats to the MSRP.. I doubt you can residualize those options..

Secondly, ... $1600 over sounds a little high, considering the dealer is marking up the MF the maximimum amount, plus adding $200 to the acquisition fee.. This isn't a very good deal.

3) There is probably sales tax on your cap cost reduction.. So, any amount not allocated for the first payment and security deposit is taxed, and would reduce your cap cost reduction a similar amount... also raising the payment..

4) I would have the dealer cut a check for that trade, and only pay 1st payment and security deposit at signing..

I'll run a full set of numbers later.. Not sure you have any negotiating room left, since you have ordered the car...

$38,395 MSRP
$36,985 Selling price (invoice + $1600 profit)
$38,035 CAP cost (selling price plus IPOD, mats, $625 acq.fee)
3yr/36K lease
61% Residual
.0010 Money factor
Payment = $468/mo.+ tax
Due at signing = 1st pymt. + security deposit (approx. $1000)
$5080 trade equity - due at signing = $4080 due to buyer at delivery..

Don't use your trade as a downpayment, other than to cover your due at signing costs.. Put it in the bank and take $100 out each month to defray your lease cost..

Your dealer will likely balk at this... He is making an extra $1200 by bumping up your money factor and marking up the acquisition fee..

I happen to think that $1600 is plenty of profit, without making another $1200 in the finance office..

kyfdx

Got first quote and financing terms from dealer by ttothes

Hello!

I'm currently negotiating the purchase or lease of the following X3 and would really appreciate any one reviewing the numbers and offering any advice:

3.0i
Jet-black
Premium Package
Satellite Radio Prep
Automatic Transmission
Window Tint (done locally)

MSRP ($38,870) with tint ($180) has been quoted at $39,050; dealer will discount $1,700 to get to $37,350 w/out TTL.

The purchase APR I've been quoted is 3.9% all the way out to 60 months if desired.

The two leasing options are as follows:

1) 36mo lease
- 12k/yr
- $842 minimum down = $580mo.
- 61% Residual for buy out option of $23,710
- Money Factor .00155

2) 36mo Owner Choice (Balloon)
- 12k/yr
- $0 Out of Pocket = $588mo
- Same residual.
- 4.5% Interest

Do you think I should push for more off the sales price? And do these terms all seem reasonable and/or would you have a preference?

THANKS!!!!

Buying: Price for X3 3.0 w/Premium and Cold Wthr Pkg by vbak

Hello all,

Any ideas on the right purchase price in the Pittsburgh, PA area for a X3 3.0.
I am looking to buy a Metallic Black X3 3.0 w/Premium and Cold Weather Pkg in addition to some minor extras like servo steering, park distance control. I have been browsing the various websites (edmunds, kbb, carsdirect) and the thread and seems like people are trying to pay ~1500 over invoice.
Given the invoice price of ~$37.5, I am assuming ~$39k would be an ok deal. Is getting this car at invoice not feasible? I thought the invoice price already has some builtin markup for the dealer. Also, do these dealers throw in loaner cars when you take the car in for service?

I am posting the "public" prices I have researched below. Any thoughts on which number I should be striving for would be great.

Thanks

============================================
CarsDirect Invoice: $37,592 Sale Price: $39,342
Edmunds Invoice: $37,530 TMV: $39,721
KBB: Invoice: $37,510 BlueBook: $38,993

1) No comment on the owner's choice, as I don't follow those..

2) The lease is not a good deal.. and, unless your taxes are extremely high, they are really laying some extras into the price that aren't accounted for, plus marking up all of the fees and money factor..

3) Assuming all of the fees and money factors at their maximum, I could only come up with a payment of $498/mo + tax.. Unless there is something else I'm not aware of, the tax would have to be $82/mo to get to your payment..

This is how your lease deal should look:

$38,870 MSRP (tint is not residualized)
$37,350 selling price
$37,975 CAP cost (selling price + $625 acq.fee)
36mo/36K lease
61% Residual
.0010 money factor (base rate)
Payment: $458/mo + tax
Due at signing: 1st pymt, security deposit, title/license (about $260?) total approx. $1200-$1300.

If you can't get that lease deal, I'd be more inclined to just purchase the car at 3.9% for 60 months, rather than pay $580/mo for a lease.. Payments on your purchase price would be $686/mo.+ tax..

kyfdx

I think a good price to shoot for is $800-$1200 over invoice.. Anything more than $1500 over invoice seems to be a little much..

Good lease deals, if you can get the dealer to use the base rates...

Thanks for the quick response on the invoice price premium of about $800-1200.
Do you think there is some sort of cash back offer if one purchases the car outright?

Also is the invoice price the right benchmark?

Thanks, Vimarsh
