Brand new BMW X3 with problems, see my other posts on the various X3 threads.   Just for giggles, asked about selling it back to the dealership after 1 month and <500 miles on it. My wife had a brand new 2007 Toyota Camry, largely regarded as one of the most reliable cars on the market, but it was a rattle trap with shimmying brakes from day one. She traded it on a 2009 X3 in February, last 15,000 trouble-free miles later it remains THE BEST-BUILT, MOST RELIABLE, LEAST TROUBLESOM and ZERO DEFECT car that either of us has ever owned.   We are so delighted with the build quality that when I trade in my Mercedes early next year I'm going to look for a nice CPO 2007 or 2008 X3 for myself.   Of course my great experience doesn't make the X3 a troublesome car line any more than your experience makes it a troubled one.   The fact is the X3 uses largely the same parts as the previous-generation 3-series, a well-liked and reliable car if ever there was one, and the engines and transmissions from the current 3-series, also a rather highly-regarded car. There is nothing about the X3 that makes good engines and transmissions bad.   Face it, you got a bad one. Maybe your car was put together on the Monday morning after Oktoberfest, but it is hardly representative to the entire line. I am talking about my car and my personal experiences.   I am trying to figure out what is wrong with my car and how to fix it. Since my car will eventually be up for resale as well, I do not have a vested interest in outlining its problems either. However, the situation is bad enough that I am willing to take the risk of poor resale in order to figure out what the heck is wrong with it.   So far, I have found (through talking about my car) that it might have the well-known transmission problem causing rocking, it might have a cv joint problem causing bucking from the front bumper, it might have asthma or allergies....I do not know. I am currently trying to figure out if there is something amiss in the seat as I feel the side to side swaying behind the driver's seat after going over minor imperfections in the road.   Who knows what I will find today? The hunt continues until I figure out what it is.
