No - Edmunds [nor anyone else] can't estimate tax and license for every jurisdiction in the country....which is why I always discourage people from posting buying numbers labeled "out the door". This number has no meaning since your tax rate and my tax rate are completely unrelated. All I want to know is what you're paying for the car before the govt gets paid.

Anyway, your TDI deal sounds like a very good one indeed, and proof that the dealers are finally recognizing that there are lots of cars to be had out there. Discounting of TDIs has finally come to our neck of the woods, as well [Portland, OR].

(When posting prices, please tell us the price of the car separate from local sales taxes and licensing fees - the latter are simply irrelevant if I don't live in the same locale you do.)

Hi,
I looked but couldn't find the answer, so forgive me if this was discussed before.

I read the experience from various people but they all concern 'non basic' cars.

I am interested in getting the base Jeta model, on a lease.
VW advertises $199 a month for 36 month & $2499 as first payemt.
Is it possible to get a better price than this one for this car ?

I asked a few delears (Seattle area), and their all told me that they can't lower this price, some are even reluctent to even sale such a car

thansk for the info

09 Jetta TDI Pricing by panchito1

Today I bought an 09 Jetta TDI for $21,400 plus taxes and tags (freight included)

Specifications:
Automatic transmission
Rubber mats kit (including splash guards)
IPod adapter (built-in to the arm rest not a cable)

I'm interested in learning what other people have paid recently. Having a $1,300 and sales tax rebate also helped. So in the end my out-of-pocket cost will be approximately $19,100.00

I was shopping around for a while and couldn't find any dealer that would go below $22.6

Do you mind explaining how you got it from 21,400 to 19,100 out of pocket after a 1300 rebate? Were there other rebates involved and how did you avoid tax?

Ishcm, where did you get this quote (of $22,500)? Was this for a sedan?

I am looking to buy a Jetta SportWagen TDI (manual) and only two dealers in the SF Bay Area are even willing to talk MSRP pricing. Everyone else seems to think that JSW TDIs should sell with a hefty dealer markup ($2-4k).

Does anyone else have any "success stories" of buying a '09 JSW TDI in North California for less than MSRP?

I have been searching for the Jetta SportWagen TDI DSG over here from the East Coast to the Midwest, and the lowest offers I have gotten, from multiple dealers, is MSRP. I believe VW just didn't import enough of these SportWagen TDI. I will wait a bit more to see if pricing improves on them, because in this economy, there are plenty of other brands making bigger deals for my money. MSRP is just rediculous, perposterous really!
