Thats a very good deal. I leased one in SD, the MSRP is 23114, total drive off of $3,150 (2500 cap red) for $220 a month including taxes, so about the same as yours and I worked on this for 2 weeks.

I got quoted $1804 for 5 year, 100k. For that kind of money, I can afford to do the repairs myself if needed. Not sure why it is so high. Should be around 1k. More reasonable. Perhaps VW doesn't have much confidence in its own product, or, more to the point, its a cash cow for all makers of cars.
For that kind of money, I will take my chances and find a good mechanic that works on diesels.

Extended service plans are cost regulated by the government in most states. Extended service plans are expensive, but VW also requires alot more specialty tools, computers, etc....also parts on VW are high. I see service bills every day that are 2-5K and trust me, they wish they had the warranty. The Longer the term of the warranty, the more the cost, for example, the 5yr 100K is less than the 7yr 100K by about 300-500 Hope that helps. Also, the prices you were quoted seem accurate compared to what i see daily. Nobody is making a ton of money off of you at those prices.

Sorry... only in very few states are they regulated, as far as cost.. Florida comes to mind..
They may fall under your state's insurance regulations, but very few states regulate the prices. In most states, you can negotiate the price, just like any other part of the deal.
I will agree that most VW owners wish they had an extended warranty..

Bought an 09 Jetta SEL on 9/28/08 w/ Jetta Protection Kit (ie Monster rubber mats, 4 splash guards, Monster trunk liner), Ipod adapter, Euro trunk Lip spoiler for $22000 and $23913.75 out-the door. Not a bad deal IMHO.

Did you just order it or have you already picked it up? Curious because wondering what you think of new pano roof? looks gorgeous and must make car feel spacious. Wondering about road noise? Do you carry gear on top, e.g. skis, bike, cargo box? Also, you live in FL, what about heat or sunshine concerns with the larger sunroof and mesh covering? I've only ever had the harder cover on past vehicles to use and it does provide significant noise reduction and protection from sun and heat. Thanks.
