I called a dealer and offered to buy a Jetta Wolfsburg for 10% under sticker price (which equates to about $1000 under invoice). They told me they would be losing money. Others have posted on this board that they get this deal. Please explain how a dealer could make such a sale.

These fees are part of what the Dealer pays for the car. The reason for the deletion of the Ad Fees is due to the fact that these numbers do vary geographically...as Edmunds so states. Edmunds has been very thorough about posting incentives over the years; so if none are posted, they do not exist. It sounds like the dealer that you contacted via email was rather forthcoming and candid. Try going back and finding some common ground...Negotiation is compromise. Each side must find some benefit.

Replying to: kyfdx (Apr 08, 2007 7:01 pm) I contacted about 7 or 8 dealerships in the area and no other dealership would match that price (most would go as low as $17500+tax+fees, etc.). Since this is the beginning of the month, I would imagine you may be able to do a little better towards the end of the month but I'm not sure if you can do as well as $17000 OTD (although I think you might be talking manual so you may be able to get manual for that price). Also, Edmunds was right on with the MSRP of this car, which was $18205, so if the dealer is telling you the MSRP of the car is more than what you see on Edmunds the car may have some add ons (floor mats, spoiler, etc.), so you may want to confirm that if these aren't things that you need. As far as rebates, I've been searching this car for a few months and I don't think the 2007s have ever had any cash rebates (I've only seen some low financing options, which I was told aren't offered with the base model). I think the 2006s used to have a $3000 rebate but I think that offer may be over now?

(I'm in TX) would then 17,800 to 18,000 be a good OTD price?( using your formula w/10% off his msrp) Thank you so much. |
