You passed a over weight BMW 760 with a speed limiter of 130 and you think you are fast? My 2001 M3 will teach you some manners if you ever try that stunt with me. As for the chip you installed, a Dinan Supercharged 01 M3 will make you wish you stayed in bed that day.

Dinan supercharger, nice! Still no match for my stage 3 k04 upgraded s4. See that on the california freeway, you will just waste your fuel trying to pass it up.

LOL, Let's keep it real. Audi S4 owners crave, desire, and beg to get half the street cred M3 owners take for granted. S4's are just as boring to look at as any other basic car on the streets. No doubt all wheel drive is a plus in snow conditions, but what idiot in his right mind takes his prized car for a drive in the snow? That's what a winter car is for. I'm reading all this yap about what S4's can do to M3's. TALK IS CHEAP...meet me at the next red light.

You dusted a M3 with a Audi S4? You must have raced an old lady who was too scared to go beyond 70 mph. In every driving comparison test the M3 always shows the Audi S4 it's tail lights. If you don't believe me check out car and driver and consumer reports comparison tests.

M3 in the snow? by vector6

Hello-

First post in this forum. I have an AWD XC90 (family car) and a zippy FWD SAAB 9-3 Vector, which you may scoff at, but which truly has been a fantastic car...but...I'm really interested in purchasing (rather than leasing) a used M3. Love the 02+ styling and performance. However, living in CO, I wonder about it in the snow. I want the car as a daily driver, but I'm used to front- or AWD. With the performance tires, even my FWD SAAB couldn't budge in low snow (Denver really doesn't get much snow - it's just a couple weeks a winter where it's an issue unless you're in the mtns) but when I slapped all seasons on it, the SAAB was excellent. So, the question is this - can I put winters on an M3? Will it go at all? Or will I need my wife to zip me downtown in the Volvo when it snows?

Any feedback is appreciated.

thanks.

M3's are not Quattro. A Quattro is a bit heavier car and due to the all wheel drive, it will be a bit slower in performance numbers. Going 0-60 in 4.8 seconds vs 5.2 is splitting hairs for a lot of people.

But everyday driving is where it counts. The S4 is a far better everyday driver as the M3 can be quite a harsh ride. Both cars are extremely nice and it's not a bad choice to get either one. Audi's 4.2 V8 is one glorious engine, and the interior fitted with Recaros feels incredible.

Take these cars on the back roads when it's pouring down raining or bad weather, and I'll take the S4 all day long.

Winter tires on the M3 by nyccarguy

I think you'd be fine with dedicated snow tires & wheels on an M3. If you're looking for a used M3, I'd have it looked at very carefully. Get a carfax report, the vehicle's service history from a BMW dealership, have it looked at by a BMW mechanic... BMWs are great cars, but most M3s are not driven only on Sundays to church by little old ladies. YOu might want to consider a new M3. USed M3s have ridiculously high asking prices at BMW dealers as CPO cars. You should be able to get a decent chunk off of MSRP on a new '05 (although I've heard the denver BMW market is terrible). I'm a BMWCCA member and recently got a $2500 rebate offer in the mail if I buy or lease any new M3 coupe or convertible. Good luck!

nyccarguy-

Thanks for the response. I do love the car...funny - after I entered my post we had a surprise early October snow. But again, most days the roads are dry and I thought with dedicated tires it might be okay.

The BMW market here IS thin. Audis are much more prevalent...maybe becuase of quattro.

Anyway,Ii was aware that a used M3 could have some hard miles on it. I've seen a huge range of prices on some sites (private sellers). Why is the 05 being discounted? Is it because of the upcoming styling change?

Thanks!

Definitely a styling change. I meant denver being a bad market for BMWs by saysing I've read that the dealers were impossible to negotiate with.

You know the M3 is a winner when Audi S4 owners repeatedly go on about all wheel drive being the factor if the weather is bad. As I stated earlier, who in their right mind takes a prized car out in bad weather???? This is what winter cars or SUV's are for. Just to show I can be objective I went to my local Audi dealer here in St. Louis and checked out the understudy to the M3 AKA Audi S4. The S4 is a nice car but had absolutely nothing on the M3 as far as apperance, fit and finish, and last but not least performance. After reading about how luxurious the interiors of the S4 were I was actually unimpressed with what I saw. And to make matters worse the new generation M3 will soon hit American shores within 9 months with a 400hp V8. M3's will continue to RULE!!!!
