Replying to: starg8fan (Feb 08, 2006 11:48 am) I will not reccomend a purchase of a chevy aveo, the timing belt / idler issue is very dangerous because when the idler gets stuck at full-throttle, the timing belt snaps and your car cannot go any more..on the road that can be life threatening. I have replaced one engine so far and the second motor did the same thing to me. I had to replace the engine myself at 98,000 miles because it was no longer under warranty. I've put so much money into this car it isn't even funny and I'm done with it completely. I still owe money on the loan but it is that bad that I am going to leave it on the side of the road and wait for the loan company to reposess it. That's how extreme it is. GM will do nothing to make up for their faulty engines if you are past warranty and they like to pretend that there is nothing going on with their cars. They are dangerous. I contacted class action world and am interested in having others make a complaint and join in on a class action suit with GM because they are screwing people.

| Have an 05 Aveo w/76,000m to date. Base model without ABS. Lately, when started and first put into gear the brakes are not responsive for a half minute or so. The pedal gets very hard to depress and will not come to a complete stop. This is not every start but at least 3-4 out of ten. Does return to operate normal (when it wakes up) System has recently been flushed (problem existed before) and the brake h/w, drums and pads are good. Anyone else get this? Suggested repairs? | |

Hey all. My 2006 Aveo JUST ran out of its 3 year warranty...1 week ago! and of course, now it has its first mechanical problem! I only have 11,650 miles on it to! Maybe someone can tell me whats going on. It was running fine until this morning. I started it and it started to act tlike it was stalling, so I push on the gas pedal and it died! Usually if i do that it revs up to like 6,000, I restarted it and it revved up and down between 1,000rpm's and 200 rpms' a few times, then it stayed at the 'normal' 800 rpms that it usually goes to when it first starts and when it is warmed up, it idles at 800 rpms, it still runs smooth as silk and fast if i push the gas pedal down as I drive. But today, everytime I had to stop at a light, it would rev up and down a bit and almost stall...unless i giggled the gas pedal a few times, then it would stay running. It runs fine and takes off like a rocket, as usual, when I push on the pedal to pass or go up a hill, it still goes and has fine pickup. BUT it almost stalls when I start from a stopped position. As long as I keep it in neutral at the stop lights, and giggle the gas pedal it stays running. If i take my foot off the pedal it stays running, but when I get started to go, it almost stalls,it drops down to about 200 rpms, and then it takes off! I get the feeling it is one of 3 things, either a fuel pump problem, clogged injectors, or a tank of bad gas. I put about 7 gallons in it yesterday, from a station I go to nearly all the time. BUT it was running fine until I filled up yesterday. So that makes me think it is bad gas, with dirt or water in it? BUT if the gas is bad, and it clogged up the injectors, wouldnt it run bad all the time? It runs fine once I get going, it is as fast/smooth as usual. Below 15mph, it chugs and almost stalls, unless I giggle the gas pedal. Anyone have any ideas? Does the 50,000 mile powetrain warranty cover the fuel system? I intend to call GM tomorrow and ask them, but does anyone know what this could be IF it isnt covered? The warranty ended just 1 week ago,and it only has 11,000 miles on it! It shouldnt have this problem, and i shouldnt have to fix a problem like this. But if i do..I have put in a bottle of concentrated fuel system cleaner, hoping if it is clogged injectors this stuff might work. I doubt it will, but I have used it before and its only $8.00. But does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? It runs fine once i get going. It doesnt backfire or anything like that. Did i get a bad load of gas? Is it the fuel filter, that I hear is IN the gas tank...THAT is that would be VERY expensive to be replaced and i wont put in that kind of money for a repair. I'd trade it in on something else. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Replying to: flaaveo (May 10, 2009 5:36 pm) Luckily it was a 'free' fix. But IF it had been a costly repair,GM said they would have paid for it or paid up to 99% of it, since I have such low miles, and that my warranty had just run out, and they have a 'payment assistance program', I didnt know about that...did any of you?? That helps people pay for costly repairs. Anyway, a stupid tiny vacuum hose, that fell off cause all this havoc! I can only imgine what happens when something BIG goes wrong! Wow! |

Anyone notice in Chevy's print and television ads the Aveo is nowhere to be found. I wonder why. Any thoughts?

| I agree. I have never seen them advertised and when I was looking for a small car to buy I just happen to stumble on the Aveo. I had never heard of it and assumed it was a "new" chevy model when in fact the dealer said it had been out since 2004. What a surprise! I did buy one but still have never heard of any advertising of it. crazy | |

I'm thinking of buying a 2009 or 2010 Aveo 5. I'm in my 50's and all or children are moved out. How does this car handle on the highway? In the snow? Is it powerful enough for luggage and such for a cross country trip? (new-york state - - - california) I have to cross the rockies. I've never owned a car before only vans and S.U.V.'s I want something economical, dependable and safe. I need help and advice with my decision. Thank you!

Replying to: laserblue (Jun 14, 2009 5:47 pm) I live in Calgary, Canada, so, driving in snow (and through the Canadian Rockies) is something I can totally attest to. As long as you have a good set of winter tires, you are fine. Not one accident/near miss to date (touch wood). The trunk is kinda tiny, but you can always put the back seats down and pack to your hearts content. I have moved 4 times, using my car as my moving truck. lol. I actually folded the back seats down and fitted a patio table and 4 chairs in there. It was impressive really!! The interior is very spacious, even thought it seems small from the outside. No problem with tall people knocking their heads on the roof or anything like that. Sometimes in windy conditions it is a little sketch, as the car is really light and if there is a big enough gust, you really feel it. Or like a big semi passing by...but, not like you are gonna fly off the road or anything, you can just fill it pull a bit. All in all, i think it is the ideal economical, dependable and safe car. My car is paid off next year and I have no intention of replacing it! I have only had a few minor repairs that I had to make on it. Just make sure you watch the warranty program correctly, and you will have no problems. Good luck. You cant really go wrong.
