Change in manufacturer may fix Aveo problems by burtonhwolfe

When I bought my Aveo hatchback, one of my reasons was to buy American. I was disgusted when I learned it was manufactured in Korea. If the information provided from one of the participants in this discussion is correct, the Aveo will now be made in Canada and Mexico. Maybe that will fix some of the problems that have been discussed, such as stalling (in a separate group discussion under "stalling"). The main purpose of this message, however, is to let everyone who read my comments on stalling know that the problem was me, not the car. I had the ignition switch key dangling from a key case as I drove, and the motion of its swinging caused the engine to cut off. It turns out that has been a more frequent problem than reported. It results from an overly sensitive ignition switch. Perhaps that problem will be corrected with new manufacturers. In the meantime, anyone experiencing this problem will have to take the key out of a key case or off a key chain and just insert the unsupported key in the ignition switch.

To buy a car because it is made in America like a Honda or a Toyota is not smart. Yes, many Honda and Toyota are made in the USA. Blind nationalism is what brought American cars into the craps. The Aveo is a great car at great price.

People who don't support their country and think of themselves over anything else are the problem. When a country produces similar or better quality products and people still ignore because of false perceptions, fancy marketing by others, or like a friend of mine - status symbol, that is the problem.

It's good to see Toyota in financial trouble also. They are asking their government for 2-billion as of this week.

After 50s K miles, one of my tire's valve started to leak. I changed all 4 tires. The tire place had only 195s, so I bought them. Wider tires are nice, but my bad mpg went down more.

When did you guys changed your timimg belt? right on 60K miles?

Those were original tires. They looked used but not completely gone. I think I could have 10K or 15K miles more out of those tires until that air leaked.

They do that on purpose. The whole idea is to say that they don't know what's wrong until you either get frustrated and give up...or you run out of your warranty and then you have no rights as a consumer under the california lemon law...even though these cars are lemons. I've had my second engine break down on me and I'm still paying on the car. I refuse to pay the payments on it anymore because I've had to put more money into the car than I've made on payments.

I went to class action world and I am trying to start a class action suit because there was a recall on chevy aveos for the idler/timing belt problem but only for specific cars....problem is...the problem is on all of their engines for chevy aveos and they know it. We just need enough people to come forward.

I full on agree with you. I will not reccomend a purchase of a chevy aveo, the timing belt / idler issue is very dangerous because when the idler gets stuck at full-throttle, the timing belt snaps and your car cannot go any more. I've r..on the road that can be life threatening. I have replaced one engine so far and the second motor did the same thing to me. I had to replace the engine myself at 98,000 miles because it was no longer under warranty. I've put so much money into this car it isn't even funny and I'm done with it completely. I still owe money on the loan but it is that bad that I am going to leave it on the side of the road and wait for the loan company to reposess it. That's how extreme it is. GM will do nothing to make up for their faulty engines if you are past warranty and they like to pretend that there is nothing going on with their cars. They are dangerous.

I contacted class action world and am interested in having others make a complaint and join in on a class action suit with GM because they are screwing people.
