| The antenna on the 2006 was a bit crappy. I just changed it. | |
We chose to buy this car for our daughter to use over the next 5 years. Own a 5 year old Honda, Altima and 3 year old Corolla but decided to keep the profits in the US, even if this one was made in Korea. New ones will be made in Canada and Mexico, and I would rather support those economies. I'm much more interested in where things are made now.

| I have a 2009 Aveo5 2LT. Is there a way to disable the horn honk when locking the doors with the keyless remote? This is really annoying. Just the lights flashing like my Yaris does is just fine. Thanks. | |

Hey. Well I cant believe that I have actually kept my Aveo 3 years. I never keep a car or truck 3 years, past its bumper to bumper warranty time. But with the economy and all..well I might keep it a while longer. I had a question about the warranty. is buying an extended warranty..NOT from GM,from another company worth the money? My parents bought one, at my insistance, for their 98 Ford Escort, and it was half the price of one from Ford. Anyway, they used it just as it was about to run out of coverage, so it basically paid for itself in the replacement of the transmission. But so far, other than the damn hatch not opening ,and the tires going bald after 7,000 mile, and me buying new ones that are still as new as the day I bought them a year ago! Crappy tires on the Aveo!! So no mechanical troubles. I havent had a single mechanical problem with the car. Just the hatch not opening, which has been fixed, and the tires, which I have replaced. So...is it worth it to buy an extended warranty for the car? From an after market company, NOT GM. I might keep it 6 more months, I might keep it a year. I have been thinking about getting a year old HHR instead. To have a bigger 'car', and hopefully 2 years more warranty on a car. or whatever it is considered to be. But I dont know if they are reliable,or fun to drive or if they ride like a truck or a car or anything about them. And I am at a whopping 11,000 miles at the 3 year mark, no mechanical problems, minor interior issues that annoy me, but I have 2 months left to get them fixed. So..if spending like $800-1100 for a 5 year more warranty worth it...even though I might only keep it a year at most. Thats all I can seem to find...nothing shorter. I have never in 30 years of driving not had a warranty covered car. Or should I trade in and get myself a Honda Accord, that I have wanted for 20 years!! They never brake down. My Civic never did..and that is the only car I kept for 5 years, in my life! If my Aveo got 30 mpg like it is suppose to, I would keep it and get the warranty. But at 18-20 at the most, and that is by driving like an old lady, it isn't a super economy car. I rather have a Yaris! Or an HHR if I am going to get 18mpg. Any opinions? I have 2 months left to go..and I do that the powertrain coverage that I didnt know I had! Till 2011? I think that is what GM customer service just told me. So the transmission is STILL covered at least! So...what should I do? |

Well if I keep my Aveo,...I need to know if my engine is suppose to sound like it does. I will take it in to have it looked at in the next 2 months, while I have a warranty. BUT, since it has been 'winter' here in south Fla., I know it isn't cold. But I could actually drive without the A/C on and the windows down. So I finally heard what the engine sounds like. And it sounds like a turbo!, When I push it under HEAVY acceleration. Is that what the little engine in our Aveos' sound like? It sounds like a turbo spooling up, if I push it hard to pass someone. It makes this whining sound. Then it is gone when I am just driving regular. I honestly have never heard it before, since I always have the A/C on and the windows up. But under HEAVY acceleration, it sounds like a turbo! Thats the only way I can describe it. Light acceleration, and it doesn't make any noise. But push it hard and it sounds like a turbo engine! Not much more power, but it does move! So..do our engines sound like this under heavy acceleration? Or do I have a problem? And also. At 3 years,BUT ONLY 11,000 miles, do I worry about replacing the timing belt, or do I follow the 60K mile replacement that everyone talks about? I figure that with such low mileage, I wait till I hit the 60K mark...right? Or does the 3 years make a difference? |
