It's hard to say. There are three versions of this car with one being SUV like. I believe this is a smaller car in the micro car size.

That car (the Spark) looks small, like a 4-door Smart car, with no trunk space. I like my roomy Aveo hatchback with adaquate trunk space.

The Versa hatchback loaded, costs more than the Aveo hatchback, and the Aveo has a moonroof.

The Spark is supposedly a hatchback, so yes no trunk space (grin) - the Aveo has a (OEM or aftermarket) moonroof (big grin) ?

Coolant gauge not working, heat not blowing by lynet_rob

I have a 2004 Chevy Aveo Hatchback. Today my temperature gauge stopped working and there was no heat blowing either. I live in Calgary, and it was appx. -22C today, but it normally takes about 10min for the car to heat up. After driving for 45min today, I still had no heat. I am clueless about cars - Anybody got any suggestions as to what I might need to look into? I don't want to get ripped off by the dealership.

check that your engine coolant is topped up. i have a 2007 aveo5 hatchback and had heating problems, and finally noticed the temp gauge had shifted. i checked the engine coolant level and found it below 'min'. i topped it up with the prescribed 'dex cool' (50% water/etc) and heater has worked great since. mechanic says the engine coolant system is more tied in with the heating system than the air conditioning. strange 2 me but i'm no mechanic. had the mechanic check the engine coolant system with no pressure problems? now i just check/top it everytime i fill it up. wondered how it uses/loses the coolant till i noticed a lot of cars in traffic pour lots of 'water'/liquid out their tailpipes...guess this is where it's going..other than a few other problems covered by warranty i am continuing to enjoy the car...

I had the very same problem. Heat did not work and I noticed the car was running a little on the hot side so I checked by coolant. It was low and I had to add some to get it up to the right level. I check it more often now and found that I have to add some about once every 2-3 months. I don't know if it evaporates or if it goes out the tailpipe like you said but adding a little when it gets low seems to solve the issue. Other than that, no problems and love my car. BTW, I have a 2007 hatchback and LOVE IT (so far).

Thanks for your responses. I will start with a coolant check/top up and go from there. Hopefully that solves my problem. The car is not running hot...I don't think -> cause the gauge does not move, so, can't really tell. lol.
I will write back and give some feedback as soon as I give that a shot.

I am surprised that you did not know the Aveo has an OEM moonroof.

Thanks for your suggestion on simply adding some coolant. The coolant was slightly below the min. level, The mechanic said that sometimes a air-bubble can get into the systems and cause it to malfunction. He added the coolant, and revved the engine with the lid off the coolant reservoir for about 5min. And there we go > heat! Awesome really....considering it has been -38C here the last few days. Having no heat really wasn't an option.
