I have a 2004 TL that has the same problem with some voice directions. I checked out everything on it before buying it, but this feature, and haven't been able to find a solution for the lack of voice responses to directions. All other voice commands and responses work just fine, other than those with directions. The radio goes to the back speakers like it is trying to work, but nothing. Suggestions?

Then just yesterday, the navi system won't "boot". I get the starting screen ("sun over the earth"), but it won't advance to the next screen. I pulled out the orange disk and checked it (no problems), but it still won't work. Suggestions?

Also, since I have the orange disk, is there any other disks I could upgrade to to get newer information? What would be a reasonable cost to pay for an upgrade?
Thanks.

The hard drive is about 40 GB and it automatically rip's audio CD's to the hard drive though you can disable it and do it manually. The bit rate is about 128 kbps so it might not satisfy everyone. Then again only 12.7 GB is allocated for music. Finally Honda has decided to upgrade it's navi system to have a High resolution display and a hard drive.

As for 09 TL map updates those might have to be done at the dealer. It's probably due to them having a specialized data machine. Just like in 1996-1999 . Or Acura could release a DIY DVD updates. I'm sure the update could erase music and photo data. The FCX clarity also uses this system and maps have to be done at a Honda dealer.

09 TL's with Navigation also use Gracenote for CD song information. The Gracenote database requires updates to ensure accuracy.

2000-2003 still get 2.50 which means they may stop updates for this platform
2004-2006 owners can now upgrade to 3.71
2007-2008 owners can now get 4.64 which is finally available. Those people can finally update their system to have the latest information.

09 TL Nav part 2. by rv65

Well you can rip your own CD's to the hard drive but you can't transfer MP3/WMA files. The hard drive is still limited to 12.7 GB. You can burn mix CD's as audio CD format which most music programs do. You can transfer pictures but only 10 of them through a flashdrive. This will be used as a wallpaper or screensaver. They even integrated it to the Memory system. Driver 1 and Driver 2 can each personalize their wallpaper.

Backup camera has lines to help with the parking. So it has some form of parking assist.

Maps are avaliable through a dealer or by acuranavi.com/. Acura will let people update this system yourself. There are scenic routes on this new upgraded system. Expanded Hawaii and Alaska coverage will be a plus.

This new nav system overall is probably an improvement. The VGA display is much better than the current Acura navigation system. Like having a high-def display for navigation.

I don't believe the 09 can rip DVD-A or DTS tracks and store them on the hard drive. This makes the one-disc player highly deficient because without the six disc changer, you cannot play six discs of DVD-A or DTS music that are supported by the ELS audio system, which Acura touts (and many of us believe) is an excellent 5.1 system. Too bad Acura did not think this through before deleting the changer.

I probably forgot to mention that. Yes but the hard drive takes room. Maybe the nav and radio are an all in one unit with a separate screen. It doesn't rip DVD-A's. It doesn't even rip MP3/WMA's. The hard drive is a specialized unit made for an automotive environment.

2008 Nav Improvements by smlull163

Not sure this won't be deleted, but I'll ask. I'm tired of having to push OK every time I start the car. I bought the car, that should account for something. I have a 2008 TL w/NAV. I love the car. I guess I'm looking for a computer hack to do away with the start up OK button. Any ideas? Has anyone done this?
