locating in the northeast has been a big problem and it has caused a big shortage....the reason has to due with emissions. NY, Mass, ME and I think VT are CAL emissions states...the other New England states and surrounding states are not....mazda decided not to ship cal emission cars to non CAL boarder states until later this year.. So, it makes swapping very difficult. Also, you can not buy a non CAL car and register it in CAL states...

so those of you doing your own locates need to take this into consideration.

Also, those of you doing factory orders, be prepared to wait 3-4 months. Remember, 4-6 weeks of that is shipping from japan and port processing.

Locating seems to be a problem in Chicago too by tiredofmanual

But then again, I want the 5-speed. And in red or titanium. With the airbag package. And the moonroof. And not much else.

Your dealer must be the problem. The EXACT options and color you want is in stock in Chicago area at multiple dealerships. Your choice of Red or Titanium, both are in stock. There is a large stock of 3's in the Chicago area. Which dealer are you working with?

Don't be so quick to bad mouth the dealer....are you aware that the consumer located posts the cars when they are ordered by the dealer not when they arrive at the dealership?

So with the MZ3 the cars are posted on the consumer locater 3-4 months before they arrive at the dealership. The dealers have access to a "live" locater which is much more detailed.

Please explain to me how the dealer is not the problem when the car is available and the dealer can not locate it or is unwilling to dealer trade? I know for a fact that the cars are at dealerships and not in route. Dealer having access to more detailed information is another reason that leads me to think the dealer is the problem, they likely know of additional cars that I am unaware of.

...and while the price was indeed good, I wouldn't exactly rush back there to buy my next car. I got the typical pricing tricks and high-pressure salesmanship, and when I went back to pick up the car today, they said they were finishing up detailing it--then drove it out *coated* in bird droppings. They eventually admitted they'd need 45 minutes to an hour to get it ready; it really took an hour and a half, and they kept telling me they were going to drive it around momentarily. Once I got it, I had the sense they hadn't exactly gone over it with a fine-tooth comb: The navigation system began to talk to me in French...

But yes, the price was good and the car itself has been a joy so far...and I'm a relative newcomer to the bay area who doesn't know if there's a better Mazda dealer nearby (I wasn't impressed by Putnam, who had marked up all their 3s by $2000 above sticker).

Have you actually touched theses cars or are you just going by the locater? if your just going by the locater, tell me the dealer name and I will look on the dealer locater.

also, don't forget the car is new and hot for mazda...it may not be the selling dealer who is the problem. If a dealer calls me to swap one of my cars and the dealer calling does not have what I want back....tough luck, no swap. Dealers are not in business to fulfill other dealers orders.

Locator re audia by moparbad

Don't assume I'm just going by locator;) I've looked upon exactly the car tired desires yesterday while the dealership was closed and verified the actual existence of two more via phone. I was bored and trying to be helpful.
Dealer trades are very, very common in the Chicago area due to the large number of dealerships. It would be a surprise to me if a dealer was unable to trade for a car available at multiple dealerships and the Ma3 is in ample supply in Chicago. I've worked in the auto sales business both as a dealership employee and on my own, I do not claim to be an expert though I am knowledgeable.
If tired does not receive desired results at current dealer, go elsewhere.

Did I mention that I was looking for an S sedan? The closest one to me that is exactly how I want it (according to the inventory search on Mazdausa.com) in Velocity Red is in Milwaukee, but my dealer tells me that they called them up and were told that the delivery date for that car is TBD - they don't know when exactly they'll get it in. Truth? I don't know, but they've been stand up people to deal with so far. Not pushy and very friendly.

Now, if I go with the Titanium Gray, there are two that show up as exact matches, according to the inventory search on Mazdausa.com. Both are at the same dealership in Racine, WI. But I don't know the status on them. Perhaps they have deposits on them, perhaps not. We'll see. I'm expecting a call from my dealer later today.
