New to us 2006 Madza3 by grinnin

We are now officially a 2 Mazda family. In addition to the 2004 RX-8 in the garage, we bought a 2006 Mazda3s with 18K on it for $13,000 from a private party. It is copper red, has a 5sp manual, sunroof, leather heated seats and a few other goodies. Another plus is 2006 was the last year mazda offered the 48 month/50,000 mile mfr warranty, so we are covered for the next year just in case. It's a city car and there are more than a few minor scratches in the plastic bumpers and some decent curb rash on the alloys, so the deal was probably fair but not a stunning value.

I gotta say we are pretty darn happy with the purchase so far. Our first 3 gas tanks have been 26mpg and 27mpg in mostly city driving, and 31 mpg mostly highway. I was a bit worried the 2.3L engine would not be so efficient, but I am way happy with those numbers. Our former 2000 Nissan Altima with a similar size and powered 4-cyl only got around 21mpg overall (granted with a 4-sp OD auto tranny) We have already been to the dealer once to get a broken rear suspension coil replaced under warranty, but I will keep y'all posted as we get some more miles on the car and tackle a Boston winter with it.

I am considering a 2006 or 2007 Mazda 3 s Touring or Grand Touring with an automatic transmission. What are some potential issues or problems with the car that I should look for?

I got my Mazda 3 years ago... it was a 2005. Pretty much got everything you could get and it was just a little under 20k. Been a great car so far. I'd definitley recommend it here.

Has been a very reliable car for us these past 4 years/64k miles. Easy to drive & park so we're hoping to get another year out of it before we look for a replacement car. We like the new 2010 model but who knows what we'll find in the 2011 model year. A few new entries in the market that we'll have to check out.

Went to a Mazda dealer today and looked at a 2010 3s Grand Touring, Velocity Red. I was offered 21500+++, which comes to about 22600 OTD. I feel like I should be able to get a better deal on this...was hoping for around this price for one with the Moonroof/6CD package, which this does not have. He did offer to add in satellite radio for no charge (car didnt have it installed already). Worth going back or best to keep looking?

I was more than interested about how you guys got those fantastic prices. I quoted around (NJ) for a 2010 mazda3 i sport AT and the lowest price I got is $15,648+TTL. Tax here is 7% and in addition dealers notoriously charge around $600 for doc fee and plate fee. So I'm looking at around $17,300 OTD (yes, for a i sport AT). Is there anybody in NJ who can do better than that?

I went into the Smithtown Mazda dealership on long island and they gave me a lot of attitude. Here is the story:

I was looking for a 2010 Mazda 3i Touring (base w/ no options, manual) and they let me test drive it. During the test drive the sales guy tries to pin down the price, and I said well I only have 18-19K to spend OTD and that is it! I also said that I am in a no bs kinda mood, and was looking to buy a car (hopefully) that day. So, we get back to the dealership and he comes back with a number after consulting his manager $17,950 + ttl. OTD ($19,500) this was at least 500 more than I wanted to pay, plus I knew the TMV was less than that anyway. So, the salesperson goes back after I denied the 17,9 offer and consults with the manager. After that, the manager comes over and says to me," I am in a no bs kinda mood, goodbye!". I left immediately...and also noticed NO other customers there at all. I will never go back there ever again! Fortunately for them, they convinced me to goto my local Honda dealership and buy a car from them....where they had a no haggle, straightforward kind of approach giving me TMV on my Honda. Did I get the best deal on my Honda? I think I did considering the kind of treatment and service that I got at the Honda dealership. Price isn't everything.

The Mazda 3i touring I can say is a great car, with great potential. In fact, I think I liked it better than the civic! But for the attitude, and the price I was getting I couldn't see my self in this car. No other Mazda dealership had the car that I wanted and one Mazda dealership told me I'd have to wait until January to get the car! LOL

Minji,

this is not uncommon in NJ, the dealers don't like to 'deal' (almost like everything has been price fixed). I would try putting some low offers infront of some NY, PA dealers and see how you get on. Herb Chambers in Boston is also pretty good on deals albeit, it will be a drive. I got a price from them last Dec on an Odyssey EXL-RES last Dec, $7000 under MSRP. Noted it was a 2008 which Honda were giving dealers a $3,500 year end discount on but this was still well under invoice. I ended up getting the same price from a NYC dealer which saved me about a 7hrs round trip to get the car.

I am currently negotiating with them on another vehicle currently and looking as though I'll be approx $2000 below invoice OTD.

Hope this was of help.

Mazda 3i-touring manual by ejlee

I received a quote over the phone from wayne mazda today for a Mazda 3i-touring for $17,600 not including sales tax which puts it at $18,832 OTD.. is that a good deal?

I took this deal to the manhattan mazda dealer and he basically told me that he couldn't go under $18,500 or he would be losing money.. he told me that there are no incentives or rebates for the dealers on this car...

any thoughts? is the wayne dealer not telling me of some hidden fees he is going to charge me when i actually go to the dealership?
