I've been pleasantly surprised that the majority of 5-door Sport models in my area have the Moonroof/6CD/Bose option. A few even have the Technology Package (which I don't want), but it's interesting that it's not a Grand Touring model exclusive. I've been quoted $21,150 (plus TTL) for a 2010 MZ3 5-door Sport with AT and Moonroof/Bose/6CD. That's $518 over invoice and $945 off MSRP. I get a feeling that they'll put some cash (or marketing support) on these in a month or two....thoughts? |

Replying to: metsjets (Jun 01, 2009 6:30 am) MSRP- $19,695 Invoice- $18,400 Edmunds TMV (in NJ)- $19,207 I'd offer $18,900 ($500 over invoice) and NOT go over $19,200! That doesn't include sales tax or tag/title/registration fees (which vary by location). FYI- they are offering low APR financing for qualified buyers- 2.9% for 36-months or 4.9% for 60-months.

Replying to: metsjets (Jun 01, 2009 6:32 am) The factory warranty covers this car for 3yrs/36k miles (bumpter-to-bumper) and 5yrs/60k miles powertrain (engine/transmission). Defects typically show up early in the life of the car and are repaired long before the warranty expires. Instead of buying an extended warranty (which often cost as much as $1500-$2000), open a 'car repair' savings account. Deposit $50 per month into it and you'll have $1800 at the end of the 3-year warranty. And $3000 at the end of the 5-year powertrain warranty. If something goes wrong with the car when it's out of warranty, pay for it out of this savings account. If nothing goes wrong, you'll end up with a few thousand bucks in the bank rather than in a dealer's pocket! |

Replying to: metsjets (Jun 01, 2009 6:32 am) In my case, I got suckered into buying an extended warranty (that went to 100,000 miles) on a car I bought in 1988 (which I happened to drive almost exactly 100,000 miles), and between the cost of the warranty and the $100 cap on a per service visit, the warranty ended up costing me more than twice what it would have if I had paid for the repairs. Since that time my wife and I have purchased eight cars, all of which were offered with an extended warranty (and all of which expired at no more than 100,000 miles), and we took a pass on every one. Taking the total of the warranty contracts that I didn't purchase (which doesn't count the per service visit charges), I come up with a figure of about $18,000. Against that, those eight cars have required about $4,500 in maintenance making for a savings of at least $13,500. Or does it? Of those repair charges, about $3,800 came when the vehicles had well over 100,000 miles on them which means that the repairs wouldn't have been covered anyway, and that means that over the last fifteen years I've saved over $17,000, enough to buy a new car. Long story short, an extended warranty may work out to the owner's advantage on any one car, however, I'm betting that over 99% of the driving public would make out better over their driving life if they simply self-insured. Best regards, Shipo |

Replying to: shipo (Jun 03, 2009 2:45 am) Others have paid in the $800 range for these on the avg sedan $17000+ purchase price, or perhaps $1200 for a complex 4wd vehicle, loaded with nav, auto sliding doors, etc. At these prices they are worthwhile. All with no deductable. Some seem to have generous pro-rating and refund terms. Honda sells theirs online thru several dealers, and others may be able to canvas dealers finance offices last week of the month to see if it can be done, if not at time of purchase. Of course avoid non manufactruer 3rd party warranties like the plague. Good luck --jjf
