Thanks for the info bk40. I hope you are closer to getting your car.
I was reading on carbuyingtips.com that it isn't a good idea to have your dealer get the car for you from another dealer. They suggest you go buy the car yourself, at the dealer that has it. So you are better off ordering it.
I think you are probably right about the moon roof package, but I would have said, it seems that most automatics don't have the moonroof, at least around here.
I didn't see the Staten Island car, but it's too inconvenient for me anyway. I'm up in The Danbury CT/Orange county NY area, and hoping to get the car at one of the dealers in the area. I hope they get some new cars in. There hasn't been anything new in their inventories since October.

Got the car last Tuesday. Dealer called as promised, said it would be in the next day. And it was, Titanium Gray, 55 miles on the odometer, manual, no options, as requested. So far, I'm very happy with it.
Good luck in your search!

I'm not far from the area your looking and am aware of the inventories in the region...they have had lots of cars delivered since October. Usually twice a month or so. They are just turning the inventory faster than your looking. Almost every shipment of MZ3 we get has a portion of them already sold and they never hit the lot.

I've been looking at this car for a couple of weeks around the Philadelphia area. I'm looking to make a good deal. Who isn't? I see mention in this forum of paying not much over, or less than, invoice, but I don't know how to follow the threads to the answers. Can anyone suggest a good method, or good price, for my geographic area? All answers very much appreciated. I'll be glad to pay it forward.

Did anyone answer you about how to get invoice, or below, or even a little above. I don't yet know how to look for the replies. I am shopping for a 3 i touring w. side curtains. Maybe I can get some help from someone's response to you. (Maybe I'll figure out the forum soon.)
Thanks for any help. Did you get your car? teach4

Actually, I did get better prices, 200 above invoice (but not below), by talking and e-mailing the dealers thru edmunds.com request for quotes. Once I told them I was serious about buying, but wanted a better deal, most started lowering their prices. Try it. However, haven't bought yet because I haven't found coupons or rebates, and haven't found a manual GT w/o moonroof. Wonder if worth it to get an automatic, even though always drove manuals. Has anyone used the automtic/manual trans and found it ok?

Hi there,

Stick with the manual. I almost bought one with an auto, but after a test drive just wasn't happy. I like racing through the gears. Zoom, Zoom, Zoom.

Really Bad Experince by jdb4

I recently(on a Monday) visited Ourisman Mazda of Laurel in MD and took a test drive of Mazda 3 and fell in love with it. After lengthy discussion with the sales manager, I came to the conclusion the car is out of my price range. Then on saturday the sales person called and left me a voice mail that the dealer was now willing to sell the car for the price I offered on my first visit. I called and confirmed the price on the phone as well as through email. Of course once I got to the dealer, the price had changed. I informed the sales manager that the sales person confirmed and it was in fact the sales person who had initiated the contact. The real kicker to this whole deal is that after about 15 minutes the manager gave a final offer which included taxes and tags. When I tried to negotiate from that price, the manager informed me that the price did not include taxes and title. Suffice to say that I left the dealer and even though I loved the 3, I have removed it from my list. Just wondering if anybody had a similar experince either at the dealer mentioned above or at any other mazda dealer. I have bought 2 toyotas, 1 GM and 1 dodge and this was the absolute worst car buying experince I have ever had.

The way SOME car dealerships operate makes it easy to understand why many people think they are all just a bunch of crooks.

They think that if they can get you into the dealership - even if it is with a complete lie - they at least have some small chance of selling you a car. They treat it as a game - and the sad part is a % of people that get tricked into coming back because of a low price do end up buying a car for a higher price then they were given over the phone.

All I can say is - you did the right thing.

Sorry to hear about your experience.
I wouldn't take the Mazda 3 off your list, just that dealer. You might try contacting other Mazda dealers in the area by e-mail or fax and see if you can negotiate a price on a specific car without physically going down to the dealer.
The Mazda website has a search function that allows you to search a radius from a given ZIP code. After you find the car you want, e-mail the dealer that has it and try to negotiate. It has worked for many people on this forum.
