I believe I posted a response to your original, and beyond that I'm not sure what else anyone can say. Long story short, Mazda did exactly what they should have and could have done for you, and you're upset and feeling distrustful; unjustifiably so in my opinion.
Said another say, your car broke, the local dealer bent over backwards to get you back on the road as quickly as possible; be happy and enjoy your car.

I am annoyed though that i was told they were having problems with the pumps and yet no recalls took place, nor did my dealer contact or let me know about it when the car was in for servcing less than 3 mos prior.
We empathize with your case. Who gave you the information about the pumps and what exactly did they say? As you can imagine, auto manufacturers would not want to do recalls unless they were necessary. Regarding the dealer servicing three months prior, was the service more than an oil change?

The power steering pump is a known issue for the 2008.5 cars, however, when I say a "known issue", I started reading sporadic reports of failures on dedicated Mazda web sites earlier this year, and based upon those reports, Mazda didn't initially recognize a wide spread problem. By early to mid Spring it was quite clear that the issue needed to be dealt with, and Mazda needed to identify the failure point (apparently something to do with the interior of the hoses coming apart, circulating through the system and destroying the pump) before they could offer a long term fix.
As I understand it, they redesigned the hoses, rushed them into production, and then upped the production of power steering pumps to meet the expected increase in demand from the failures in the field. Once the production came on line, they then needed to get the replacement parts into the distribution channel from Japan and out into the field here in the States. Per the reports on the other forums, the supply of pumps and new hoses started reaching the dealership base in volume in mid July or so, and while there seem to be enough to go around for the moment, the supply is still quite tight.
All in all, I believe Mazda did a pretty good job of reacting to an unexpected problem in the field and got their act together to remediate the problem rather quickly given that they're a half of a world away (meaning that I suspect that the initial supply of pumps and hoses were sent via air from Japan).
Best regards,
Shipo

Shipo,
Are you aware of any 2009's that have had this P/S Pump failure or was it resolved on 09's? I have close to 13k on my 09 3i and so far it has been flawless. The Goodyear tires appear to be wearing well believe it or not too.

No, I haven't heard of any 2009s going down yet due to the power steering issue, but then most 2009s don't have all that many miles on them at this point. My 2009 Mazda3 i Touring has almost 19,000 miles on it, however, the first 15,000 or so were nearly all highway, and there's been a reasonably high mix of highway usage since that time, so my car may not be the best example. I'll keep you posted if I hear anything.
As for the tires, my Goodyears lasted 714 miles before I pulled them off, and the car is much more of a joy to drive since I did.
Best regards,
Shipo

So far I have 19,000 miles between both the 09 3i and the 09 3s. Not a problem with either one. I do prefer driving the "i" more. Probably because the exhaust is more audible on the "i". My guess is that the shorter stroke engine is the cause. Same gear ratios on both cars so the rpms are the same. I did buy some OE 16" wheels off ebay so come time for tires I will be getting the General Altimax's. Hopefully that will reduce the road noise. I'd like to know why Mazda uses two different oil filters between the 2.0 and 2.3. I'm running 100 miles a day on the "i" so the miles are adding up quick. The A/C clutch and or compressor makes more noise on the "i" when engaging?

HAS THE A/C ISSUE BEEN FIXED ON THE 2010 MAZDA3?

Even after the fix the A/C in the 08s was still poor in very hot weather. How is the A/C in hot weather in the 2010 Mazda3?

I have read where a lot of Mazda 3 owners have complained about the performance of the air conditioning. I can honestly say that in the 2009 Mazda 3 it works great. I have never had to run the fan on full speed even with the high heat and humidity we have had in recent weeks. However, in our fleet at work we just got a 2009 Chevy Malibu Hybrid with terrible air conditioning. It works ok when you are driving but as soon as you stop with the car at idle it starts blowing warm air. There are several other very disappointing things about the car but I don't need to convince Mazda owners about how much better their cars are than most Chevy's.
