I just bought a Mazda 3 S sedan that I am excited to pick up next week. I live in Boston and was basically forced to get rid of my 2000 Audi A4 because my headlights (xenons) were stolen twice. Nissans and Audis are the big targets for headlight theft in the North East, according to the police they car pop them out in under a minute and disapear. I asked the dealership about this and of course they had never heard of it (same thing Audi told me - even it's all over A4 message boards and in the press). I picked the Mazda because it was by far the best car style and performance wise for under $20,000. I am still worried about buying a car that has Xenons as an option (I did not get!). Has anyone ever heard of this issue with Mazda? Does anyone know if people steal the standard Halogens? I have not, but just want to be able to sleep next week when I pick up my car... thank you for any input or thoughts |

Only the Shadow knows for sure - I think that is from an old (before my time anyway) radio show - If the shoe fits. OR Shadow also could mean something else - like every time I turn around I see my Shadow - I have to almost laugh at some of your posts - please - You really think I can't tell the difference between being sweaty hot and being nice and cool? Not claiming to be an automotive genius - but please at least give me that much credit. Mazda did fix my grinding brakes once - but the problem returned - so now they just call it normal. Harsh shift is just 1-2 gear - all down shifts are so smooth - you can't even tell it has changed gears. It is like the tranny is in between gears for 1/2 a second and the I get a loud "CLUNK" as it goes into 2nd gear. It started several months after I bought it - just once in a while at first - but as time goes on it seems to get louder and more often. No way this is normal - Front end is two problems - a creak over speed bumps and a loud thump when at speed. Sounds like something is loose - the strange thing is over larger bumps it is quiet - its the smaller ones that seem to cause the most noise. Poor MPG - what can I say 16 MPG is low for a 4 banger, but it has improved some since last summer - I am now over 19 MPG.

Replying to: z71bill (Jun 03, 2005 7:43 pm) I am driving a 2004 3i for last 15000 miles. I get 26-27 mpg in city (25 with AC on) and 35 on hwy. I use Chevron Gas. I used to use gas from Sams Club (they are cheap!), but I could never achieve more than 21 mpg (AC off). So higher priced Chevron breaks even with the mileage I get. And yes my AC was weak for the last summer. I have patience. I waited for the engine to break even, I did all the required service (after every 3000 miles, yes 3000 miles) and after 1 year and 15000 miles later, I have no regrets. I have a black cloth interior and in the hot humid Ohio Valley summer, it needs max 2 mins to cool down with AC on, fan in 2 and circulator wih orange light on. My 4speed sportshift Auto Tranny is fabulous and the handling is as sweet as honey (I know honey is sweet, lemon is sour). I did have problems. Check engine light came up twice. Dealer changed the fuel cap and changed a engine software. I was always provided with loaner car. The other persistant problem is my manual windows crank down (1/3 0f an inch) by itself. The dealer could not fix it. I had the same problem with my 2002 Corolla with a manual window crank. I understand that this is not a $ 40,000 Lexus. The cost of my car is $ 16000 and you get what you pay for. All these problems are trivial. The main fact is this car is fun to drive, excellent handling and very very safe. The best thing I love about my M3i - the jealous eyes of other drivers when I zoom-zoom past them. |

Hello All. I bought my Mazda3 HB GT oh about 700km ago. Great little car! I fell in love with it when it first came out in 2004, but it took a year working at my wife before I could get it. |

Just wanted to chime in here and say I took delivery in a tropical storm in Atlanta. Pretty impressed with the lil' car. Some cool features and I need to learn more about this car, but I'm loving it so far.

We've had our car 4 weeks now and love it...it's a blast to drive! Only options were the power pack and wheel locks. They threw in the pin stripping, vin etching on the windows & an alarm. Were very happy with the buying experience and dealt with the internet department. Bought on a tuesday and they got in our car from the port on friday, tool delivery saturday July 1st. Added color keyed door edge guards. Awesome car folks. Just hope the mileage will go up and stablize by 5k miles. Is this something that will happen? Zoom Zoom! The Sandman |

Hi, I'm Jim. I just picked up my 05 mazda3 hatch in winning blue (2.3l, sunroof, 6cd, manual) last week. I had a pretty bad accident in April in my previous commuter car and finally got around to replacing that car. After a ton of research it came down to the "3" and a Scion tC. My daughter had just bought a tC and I was pleasantly pleased with it all the way around with the exception of the very short seats which tended to cut off circulation after a short period. No matter how I adjusted the seats I could not get comfy. Since I drive 110 miles round trip to work and back that was a major drawback. When I finally drove the "3" it was hands down one of the most comfortable of all the small cars I had tested including the BMW325i and several other higher end models from various manufacturers. All in all it's a pretty cool little car with a lot more style and panache than it's price tag says. Personally, I like the little details like the multi colored lighting on the dash, the neat little "hidden" cup holders in the doors, idiot simple controls, tilt and telescoping wheel, tons of places to toss my junk while commuting (especially the little slot to the right of the shifter for my cell phone. It's about time somebody figured out how to keep that friggin' thing off the floor!) and the versatility of the the hatch and shelving in the back. Being probably considerably older than the average "3" owner at 43 I have an appreciation for quality and that is delivered at a reasonable price in the Mazda3. Pleasure to meet you all.
