#471 of 493 American Car - really Japanese ???
Apr 10, 2010 (5:30 pm)
It used to be 'known' that some American cars were actually Toyotas; Hondas; Nissans; or Mazdas (....etc...) in disguise......
Is this still a current practice ???
Is there a website (or websites) that has these type of charts / listings / matchups ?
Thank you !!!!

I don't know of any such website, though one may exist.
Yes, it is still done - you might have better luck asking in one of the existing discussions here, like Questions for a Car Dealer. Pontiac Vibe = Toyota Matrix, right off the top of my head.
#473 of 493 Commuter 4x4 Vehicle
May 25, 2010 (1:16 pm)
I recently started a new job and need to purchase a used vehicle in the 10k-15k range that will fit my commute. I travel 40 miles on freeways, followed by 2 miles on rough truck trails to get to a job site. I need a good balance of highway comfort, gas mileage, and off-road capability. I won't be hauling anything except people, so a full-size pickup or suv seems like overkill.
What's my best bet given these restraints?
#475 of 493 Leasing in one state and moving to another state
Jul 03, 2010 (8:18 am)
I live in NJ and will be moving to PA in a month. I need to lease a car now in NJ because my new job in PA is starting soon. In NJ, the tax is calculated up front vs. in PA, the tax is calculated on each lease payment. This means, if I lease the car now, I'll be paying the tax on three years' lease payments up front, and when I move to PA, PA will add the tax again to my lease payments. I'll be double-taxed! I want to find out whether there is a way around this. Thanks.
#477 of 493 sales jargon
Jul 31, 2010 (1:51 pm)
I am not a US resident but I have to buy a car in Florida soon, I saw these 'add ons' on a Toyota dealer, they seem a bit greedy to me:
Sales Tax, Title, License Fee, Registration Fee, $799 Dealer Fee, Finance Charges, Compliance Fees and RECONDITIONING COST OR CERTIFICATION FEES are additional to the advertised price???
I understand what the title, tag and sales tax are but I am sorry if this is a dumb question but can someone explain what the others are please? Thanks.

Hi bodi, if you post this question in our Quick Question for a Car Dealer discussion, people will be happy to explain each of them and answer any follow-up questions you might have about the US purchasing process.

#480 of 493 Cheapest online company or state to buy Mercury Insurance Auto Extended War
Oct 19, 2010 (2:02 pm)
I posted this in the Extended Warranty section and didn't receive a single response so thought that you might be kind enough to create a new discussion. The merits of the discussion apply to all extended warranties: What is the cheapest way to buy them and where? Can they be bought cheaper out of state?
I have decided to buy a Mercury Insurance Extended Warranty after talking with several reputable dealers and independent service companies. Since the extended warranty is identical coverage no matter where I buy it, I was wondering what state typically offers the cheapest policies or more specifically which company (contact name and phone # would be ideal).
I don't want this thread to get hijacked on whether my decision to buy or not to buy a 3rd party warranty. That decision is made. I am now looking at the least expensive place to buy this particular Mercury Insurance coverage.
If you have a person and company name for me to contact, you can email me at tampaonegmail.com
I am located in Florida but think it will be much cheaper if I can buy it out of state… The reason that I suspect it will be cheaper is that I once bought an Infiniti Manufacturer Extended Warranty that was out of state while I resided in Florida and it was 1/3 less. However, I don't know if the state regulations apply equally to 3rd party aftermarket warranties vs manufacturer extended warranties....
Thanks in advance...
