Further info on pricing for Solara convertible.
Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., announced manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRP) today for the all-new 2004 Camry Solara Convertible, the 2004 MR2 Spyder mid-engine sports car and the 2004 Celica sport coupe equipped with the Action Package. The MR2 Spyder and Celica with Action Package go on sale at the end of February while the Solara Convertible will arrive at dealerships at the end of March. The improved value of the 2004 Solara Convertible is reflected in its pricing. The 2004 SE starts at $25,950, which is $2095, or 7.5 percent, less than the 2003 model. The SLE with all of its standard equipment is positioned $1075, or 3.5 percent, less than the 2003 model with a base MSRP of $29,450.

#29 of 1166 Solara Convertible in Production
Mar 01, 2004 (6:46 pm)
According to an article in the paper a few days ago, Solara Convertibles are coming of the production line in Georgetown, KY. The article focused on the fact that the Georgetown facility has excess capacity and is possibly a site for production of the Highlander which is now manufactured in Japan but primarily sold here in the US. As part to the article they mentioned the Solara Convertibles were coming off the line.
Still no updated Toyota web site, anyone know when that might happen.

The cars are in production. I have the first one my local dealer is getting reserved. It should be in by the last week of March. That is the good news. It is black with a stone interior. That is the bad news. Wife would prefer tan interior. Might be waiting for a tan interior.
#31 of 1166 Tyresmoker - Dealer Price Quote??

Tyresmoker: Are you just first on a list, or do you actually have a contract with pricing etc. from the dealer?
#32 of 1166 Ordered Solara Convertible
Mar 02, 2004 (9:04 pm)
Similar to Tyresmoker, I have already ordered my convertible. I have ordered an Absolutely Red SLE with tan interior/top and the NAV system. Mine will be out of production March 22 - should arrive at the dealer in the beginning of April. I have a good relationship with the dealer, he had to do quite a bit of work to get the exact car. According to him, 1 out of every 20 will have the NAV system. In addition, most of the models arriving in the dealerships soon will have the stone/black combo. If you are interested in the light interior, place your orders now. With respect to pricing, I have put money down and did not care so much about the price - this order was placed mid-February.

I have a very similar arrangement w/a good relationship with a local dealer. It is a navigation SLE Black and stone. My gut is telling me once this car is seen on the street, you will not be able to get one.

as do tyresmoker and hapuna, I have a prearranged agreement with my local dealer. I was given a general price and put a down payment on the car the second week in february, immediately after I saw the car at the auto show. as hapuna says, most of the cars are being made to prearranged specs, so if you want something specific, get in good with a dealer. I have ordered a SLE cosmic blue with dark stone interior, no Nav. The dealer actually called me the other day and said that he had one switched from black to cosmic blue. No exact date for arrival, but I'm hoping by the end of this month (I'm at the front of the list)
#35 of 1166 Additional Information

Great to hear there are others out there ordering the vehicle. I think it will be a hot item. Couple of questions:
1. I am switching from a Benz SLK230 to the Solara and I am not used to the soft top. In the pictures of the Solara, you see that cover over the top when the top is down. Is that something you put on manually? Anyone know?
2. Has anyone seen brochures specifically on the convertible? It is still hard to find specifics on the car (i.e. the Toyota site, auto mags).
I am really looking forward to getting this car. I know there are mixed reviews on the design, but after seeing it at the Chicago Auto Show, I am convinced that this is a well-designed car. Much improved over prior years - I would not have even considered it before.

If you search around the Solara boards there is a link to 32 press photos with the car in various "poses"...I actually based my purchase of the car on these photos as the ones on the Toyota.com site are really poor..I am glad to hear you say that the car looks really good in person.
Back to the photos.. a few show the car with the top folded in the boot w/o a soft toneau..my assumption..it is a soft boot cover that will store nicely in the garage. My dealer (talked to him yesterday) says there is still no info, he has my production date and anticipated arrival. Will have the vin by next week.
I am rolling the dice on this: as the "actual" cars show up on the allocation sheets, I am hoping I can get a better idea as to the color availability..we will see what happens...Still not quite ragtop weather here in New England..so if we have to wait a few weeks, we will..
