White smoke coming from exhaust pipe by mopee
Nov 07, 2003 (3:54 pm)
I filled my gas tank up today and about an hour later white smoke started to come from the exhaust pipe. I checked the oil and it was about a qt low. filled it. Got home waited about a half hour and started the car again and it did not happen right away, but after letting the car run for about 5mins it started again and this time it was even coming from the engine compartment. can anyone help??

get it checked right away for head gasket leaks by swschrad

sounds like a head gasket is partially failed. this can wreck an engine pretty quick. if you have bubbles coming out the coolant overflow jug, don't drive it at all until it has been repaired... have it towed to a shop.

abs and tracs dashboard lights coming on by midewo
Nov 20, 2003 (12:06 pm)
All,
Any experience/help on what might be the problem when both the abs and tracs dashboard lights come on? Sometimes they are not on, but the majority of the time these both appear simultaneously. Is this just symptomatic of needing a brake job?
   Thanks in advance.

You may want to post this in one of our brake topics. This topic is more about exhaust smoke.

You can scan the topic list for the Maintenance& Repair Board or you can use our "search" feature to the left of this page.

mopee,
Make, model, year and engine?
How does it run, like it doesn't want to idle?
A couple things come to mind when you say it is smoking out of the engine compartment, but the main things would be head gasket problem, catalytic converter plugging or water in the fuel, but water in the fuel wouldn't have steam coming from the engine compartment.
Check exhaust flow, replace fuel filter and have compression checked. That will help eliminate some things.

just some ideas, but need more info to go on.
