.... If you live in Indiana there should be a TON of dealers between Chicago and Cleveland that will blow a convert off his lot for a few bucks over, minus and incentives ... it's not like you live in the tropics, come spring that will all change.

Also, for some reason, private sellers start to get VERY ready to deal converts after the 1st snow falls ..

Pros and cons of paying cash by eileeno

Can someone give me a quickie orientation to paying cash for a new car (something I've not done before)? How do dealers feel about giving up their loan proceeds? Are there things I should do/ask to make sure I get my money's worth in this area?

Looks like this site is full of helpful people, so thanks in advance for your replies.

It's simple...just make an out the door offer (price of the car including all taxes and fees).

Before you jump, make sure your not giving up some substantial rebates for not financing. We have some new cars that offer up to $1000 additional rebate for financing....if thats the case you usually have to keep the loan open for 90 days and then pay it off....you gain the rebate at a tiny cost.

Don't you think that most northern (rust-belt) dealers are smart enough to have purged convertibles from their lots well before the snow flew?

BTW: I read you bio. For what manufacturer(s) are you an authorized new car dealer? Just wondering...

..... Most Yankee dealers would "love" to have their inventories purged at the right time .. burn the converts by very early September and - not be looking at a loaded-up 4WD "anything" come the middle of April ..... aaaaah, what joy and happiness.!

But because of certain allotment perimeters, bonus structuring, floorplan restraints, the weather and just maybe some bad luck, if never quite seems to work out that way ... that said, some get a little lucky because the car gods were lookin' their way and the factory wasn't pushing something down their throat ..l.o.l... you can email on the other junk.

The ONLY dealers that I have ever seen accomplish this was a dealership that my brother worked for. The principal would have a carrier show up on October 15 and load up all the convertables and send them down to his dealership in Florida and return with all of the cars that were misfits on the Florida lot.

I was just wondering. My local Volvo dealer has had a C70 convertible in the showroom for three months. Maybe it's just for the snowbirds with more money than sense. I suppose somebody's wife is waiting for an anniversary present...
