My car is having the same problem this morning. I had to rent a car. Do you know the exact part that fixed the problem? Your help would be very appreciated.
Thanks

Please let me know if you've found a solution. This just started on my 2004 XLS AWD (104,000 miles). I can only open it from the inside release lever. I stop by a mechanic (not the dealer) who looked at fuses, etc. but nothing.

Thanks for your response. Thought I'd follow up nearly 3 years on.
You're right, and my ignorance of cars shows. The car does turn over, but it never starts. Now three years later the problem continues. Every 5 months or so the car won't start. If you have ever lost the programming in a key, the same type of thing happens, except the immobilizer 'key' light on the dashboard will flash. In our case, the light never flashes. The dealership has reprogrammed the keys several times. The remotes have been in and out of operation, including the new one we purchased. 3 years on, and we have not found a resolution. When the problem happens, we merely hold the key over until the car starts...often a minute or more.
I'm still in favor of replacing the ECU, but I'd like to have some proof before we do that.
No black smoke emits or any such thing.

The problem continues three years on. I just posted a lengthy reply to one of the original responses. If I hold the key to start it for over a minute, maybe pump the gas, it will start....eventually. Let me know if you fixed the problem as well.

I too have an 04 endeavor and it is unbelievably fast at heating up and blows strong hot air. I've owned many vehicles (trucks cars 1 minivan and several SUV's) mostly Daimler Chrysler products and none of them even came close to heating the way my endeavor does. I love it!!

YES! I am the original owner of my Black 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor and it is about 40-50% oxidized. The roof of the car is 100% white. I read that this was caused by Mitsubishi skimping on the factory clear coat on only their black vehicles from 2003-2005. I called Mitsubishi and apparantely they were willing to re-paint JUST THE OXIDIZED PARTS! I was so upset. They would paint only the hood, one door panel and the roof of my car and leave the rest so it would be a beautiful uneven mess, and the parts they don't paint will most likely begin to oxidize in the near future and they will paint it piece by piece. Makes a lot of sense right?? Not
They have in a round about way admitted fault for this but, don't want to take care of it. My car has 96,993 miles on it and the tranny is starting to fail . I really hope it goes in the next thousand miles or so because I have the 100,000 mile power train warranty and they won't repair it until the transmission is completely shot. I will never buy a Mitsubishi again. I have had to replace the catalytic converter 4 times, had water leak onto my floor board, had a really bad exhaust leak and when I took it to Mitsubishi to repair, I got it back with none of the power outlets working and my power seat not working when those were just fine when I brought it in! lol

Any specifics on the transmission failing? Symptoms, etc.? I have a 2004 AWD and it does not shift smoothly. Jerks a lot and clunks.
