Paint Problems by jenenssle

I just purchased an '05 LS and absolutely love it. I really wanted an XLS or limited model because I am not a fan of the unpainted plastic mirrors and bumper pieces. However, my first priority was leather and the LS had it along with my favorite color combination on top of a price I just could not turn down.

No mechanical problems at all with 49k miles on it. However... one thing irks me and I have not seen any other posts about this. The black paint between the windows/doors is horribly oxidated and flaking off and the plasic pieces on the bumpers and the mirrors look terrible as well. Does anyone else have this issue with the oxidating and flaking paint?? Would this be considered normal wear an tear or is there any chance to have this fixed under warranty? Does anyone know of a way to "care" for this area to prevent this from getting any worse? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One other thing I have seen on this forum is the flaking paint on the silver painted air vents in the center console. Again, should the bumper-to-bumper warranty cover this?

Thanks in advance!

RE: PAINT PROBLEMS
I have a Black 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor LS with 100K miles on it. I have had the clear coat fall of on the small sections between the windows, giving the paint a dull oxidized look. I bought the vehicle used with 55k on it and the clear coat was already pealed off. Since it was used, I figured I couldn't get Mitsubishi to do anything about it, so I just make sure to keep some wax on it (probably doesn't help). If you bought the car new, I would expect Mitsubishi to fix it. I also have huge problems with my paint chipping on the front of the hood. If you haven't already done it, I suggest getting something to protect the front of your hood.

RE: Mitsu Endeavor 2004 Vibration
Not sure if this is it, but I started feeling vibrations in the front end of my 2004 Endeavor, it seemed much worse at low speeds. It turns out that some steel belts broke in one of my stock Goodyear Integrities and that tire had developed a bulge, causing the vibrations. The tires had 75K on them so it was about time to get new ones anyway.

In the 45K miles that I have put on my 2004 Endeavor (over 100K total now!) I haven't had any serious problems. The only money I have put into it are for standard maintenance, ie oil changes, brake changes, new tires, and a new battery. The car has some quirks but overall it is great. The only complaint I have is the paint chipping and the clear coat pealing I mentioned above.

Hello to All,
I test drove a used 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor yesterday and I loved it, however after reading everyone's comments I'm thinking this is not the best choice. I have read about gas mileage, the best tires, various problems, and the article that says Mitsubishi will go under. Nevertheless, I'm still interested. What should I do?

Update - I noticed a few drops of fluid on the ground under the rear differential area everytime I parked my Endeavor. The dealer checked it out again and determined that the rear pinion seal (?) was leaking so your advice about the fluid being low may have been exactly correct. Seems that you cannot replace just the seal so they are planning on replacing the entire differential unit. I am optimistic that this will correct the erratic shifting issue. Oh, only 29,000 miles on my 2004. Still the best vehicle ever AND the best warranty!

Cool! Hopefully, you'll have smooth shifting after the differential is replaced. Also, it's good to hear someone being optimistic about their Mitsu rig.

There is a factory recall out that covers this problem. The interlock mechanism on some Endeavors is "failing", allowing you to remove the keys from the ignition even though the vehicle is not in park.

I have an 05 Mit. Endeavor and my son put some coins into the rear A/C blower which is breaking the fan blades inside it. I would like to know if anyone knows how to access the fan motor on the rear center console to change out the fan motor.

someone please help!! i had my fuel injectors cleaned and spark plugs changed recently. after doing so i was told to put 89 octane in my car, mind you before i had this done i used only 87 because my manual says to (surprise). after having this service done on my car in ran perfectly...and then began to ping. i went back to 87 octane and still have found no resolve. it gets worse when the temperature rises (sacramento summers) and when i turn on my a/c. any suggestions?

Sounds like one of the spark plug wires is loose.
I think that Mitsu indicates that your car (SUV) will run OK with regular but they actually recommend premium. Here's an interesting article about how premium gas can save you money...gasoline grades
good luck.

Is anyone having light problems on their 05 Endeavor? I've been having to change out the headlights continuously ever since I bought the car in 06. The light is always burning out.
