You are in the Toyota Prius Forum. Your Host is pf_flyer
I'm in New Hampshire and 10% ethanol is mandatory here. So if you want real gas you have to find a State that sells it. I think Mass and Maine are all also 10% ethanol no idea about Vermont. I think the EPA should rate all cars using the 10% ethanol since many of us do not have a choice in the matter. It's like using winter fuel all year round except in winter fuel economy drops even lower.

A Honda Fit Sport should do better than 28 mpg combined in the winter and that was the best we could get. We are up to 34 mpg combined now. |

What I see is that this administration has already made several concrete changes in environmental policy. As an environmental scientist myself, I see a fairly significant change in the climate in this country. Environmental education and environmental research have been stimulated as well in addition to the policy changes. The change in climate is what really matters in my opinion. A lot of changes will follow, now that the discussion has matured. Of course dyed in the wool republicans, especially the religious right, won't like this guy no matter what he does, due to their adherence to unsubstantiated dogma and their incapability to weigh scientific evidence. This guy is not perfect, but he is a lot better than the last few guys in that office. He has intellectual humility, and he uses reason. I feel like it is okay once again, for the first time in a long time in this country, to actually think rationally. Let's a) watch him carefully and get involved in the debate and help positive concrete change happen and b) work together. Meet you in the middle, at the NO ethanol gas station, okay Rick? Feel free to elaborate on your reservations about Obama. I am very interested in learning more. Cheers, Dave |

It seems like driving a Prius, more so than any other hybrid, is all about making a statement. Mostly statements I don't agree with, nor do I believe it is scientific fact (there are other forums for that discussion). Is it possible to own a Prius and still believe we should be drilling offshore, that whales are good eatin', that Ice melts reguardless of climate change. Heck, I don't want it to get cold enough to keep the ice frozen. But then again, what do I know, I'm just a knuckle dragging religious right capitalist republican. |

If driving a Prius is all about 'making a statement', what is driving a HH about? There is a glaring failure in your post to justify your position. Great discussing with you. Nothing like your type to shut down discussion. I wouldn't mind having more friends who are in your political fold, the problem is that they insist on shutting down discussions as soon as it might get interesting and as soon as they are asked to justify their position. I am not saying I hate you or your family, or everyone in your church, I am just trying to debate some ideas. There is a difference between people and ideas. The debate on religion is one I know more about than offshore drilling. If you are really a deep thinking and independently-minded person, have you really thought through the evidence for and against that position? Is everyone who doesn't see things your way 'out to get you'? Well, this was about ethanol in gasoline, but clearly this has gone off in a different direction.
