packages by mrvadeboncoeur

each region chooses the packages to stock on a
regular basis. it's possible that the package that
you're looking for isn't a standard package that's
available in your area.

if your dealer isn't willing to do so, find another
dealer that's willing to either special-order the
package that you want, or will look into doing a
trade with another region for the car that you are
looking for.

refundable deposit by nuhlir

Regarding the refundable deposit. It depends on your states common law as to what remedy you get, but most of the time you get at least your deposit back. From a contracts perspective if the deposit is a true deposit (meaning you are paying the dealer to deliver the car), if the the dealer fails to deliver and won't refund your deposit, you can sue for the difference between what you had to pay at another delaership and what you would have paid at the dealership holding your deposit, plus court costs and your deposit (it is highly likely it will never make it to court). If in your state the money you gave the dealer is construed as a good faith indicator (meaning its merely an indicator of your commitment to buy the car), then if the dealer gives a good faith effort to obtain the car and doesn't deliver, then they owe you the deposit back and nothing more.

If your dealer tells you your deposit is not refundable under any circumstances, I'd bet good money he's lying or not willing to back that up. Have a lawyer write a letter to the corporation and 99.9% of the time I bet they'll settle for two reasons, 1) Its really bad business practice; and 2) The common law is likely against them.

You will have an issue recovering in court however if you signed a contract had explicit terms as to the non-refundable nature of the deposit, though depending on your state this may not make a difference if the state specifically prohibits making deposits non-refundable.

See Paloukas v. Intermountain Chevrolet Corp. Supreme Court of Idaho 99 Idaho 740, 588 P.2d 939 (1978) and like cases for more info related to this.

cruise control by mlmihlfried

I just got my prius last night (whoohoo!) and while driving home, realized there's no cruise control. After looking in the brochure I noticed it's not offered as an option. Is there a reason for this? Is it because your fuel consumption is increased by trying to maintain a certain constant speed? Would I be able to add cruise as an after market option or would this be a bad idea? Also, the tint on the windows were not at all as dark as the pictures I've seen and I really like the dark tint. How about aftermarket tinting? Is there a certain tint technique or brand that is best? By the way, those are the only complaints and they're pretty minor....I LOVE the car!!

That's because it's standard.

You likely didn't find it on the car itself since each automaker puts it in a different spot. The photos I've taken of a 2004 clearly show that it is installed in the same place as the classic model. Look behind the steering-wheel to the right, at about the 4:00 position. The stalk sticking out is the cruise.

depends - what model year of Prius did you buy?

on a US 2004 Prius, the cruise control is standard.

on a US 2001-2003 Prius, cruise control is an option.

if you have a 2001-2003 Prius, you can add cruise
control to your vehicle. Toyota sells a retrofit
kit that's about $250 that you could install yourself
(what I did for my 2001 Prius), or you can buy the
remote cruise control from http://www.coastaletech.com/cruise.htm

Rear window wiper needed? by sms75
Nov 03, 2003 (8:40 am)

My dealer has complained enough to get two of the demo Prius cars they have used for the dealer test drives. They are real basic versions - not even the rear window wiper. Feeling that a car in the hand now, so to speak, is better than one in two weeks, is there anyone who can offer an opinion or experience as to whether the rear wiper really is needed?
