Thanks GH for that info; I will keep it very much in mind. It is something I would not have known as my wife is exhausted from car shopping and won't go with me to look at cars! so I don't have an adult to sit in the passenger seat! I wouldn't have thought to spend much time myself in the passenger seat.

Your comment certainly proves the benefit of this forum

abcde6,

I bought a 2007 M35 in July (2008). Love everything about this car except the drive. I'm afraid I'm not cut out for a sporty drive. I am looking to trade or sell the car already. If you're interested let me know.

Music box loading by charlie08

I got my new 2008 M35 and want to put some CDs into the music box. I called infiniti customer service, and 2 dealerships with the question "How long can I safely use the music box record function with the car in the ACC mode before I begin to drain the battery too much?

Here are their answers:

Infiniti: Good question, I don't know, let me find out. Then I was transferred to dealership #1.

Dealership #1: about an hour

Dealership #2: 5 minutes

Terrific. Does anyone have further insight?

Here is my understanding of how music box works:

1. You may load it between 5 minutes and 60 minutes.
2. Alternatively, you must be driving the car to load it.
3. There is no better way to use the music box other than in real time while driving the car.

Anything I'm missing here?

That is a good really good question. Being that discs load rather quickly, I have been just loading them when I'm driving. Somehow they load much quicker than they play. Seems you have to load the whole disc and can't load individual songs. So I've been loading the whole disc and then deleting the songs I don't want. Not a great way to go, but it works.

Using it seems to be more of a problem. It seems that you cannot use the Search function to load music except when the car is stopped. You can only play what you set up when you last stopped the car. Have you found anything different? This seems to be a real limitation. When I'm on a long drive, I don't want to stop everytime I want to change Artists or the type of music I'm currently listening to.

Have you found it to be any different?

I'm still progressing up the learning curve here, and knew this was an issue when I bought the car. However, my point is two-fold. First, the music box is minimally functional, designed perhaps by someone with an insight from a decade past. Secondly, and more important, why is it that I can't seem to get a definitive answer to the question of how long can one load and record CDs in the ACC mode from Nissan? Their performance with this one issue borders on the shameful. Transferring me to a dealership? What are they thinking, work avoidance?

While your question is interesting and intellectually challenging, there are many variables. How charged is your battery when you start using it in ACC? What is the condition of the battery? What else do you have running when using the ACC position? How much power do you need in the battery to start YOUR car (what's the outside temperature, are the lights/wipers on, ....) I can understand why Nissan doesn't answer the question.

I don't think you would get an answer from any car company on this type of question....for example, how long can I run the radio at full blast in a parking lot before a football game....and stll have enough power to start the car.

Well, I generally agree with your point, ghstudio, but I just think a more definitive position and response could have been forthcoming. I could have answered all of the questions and variables you presented if I had been asked.
I wonder if anyone has found a work around to getting music into the music box?

It would make a radical difference if it was in the middle of summer or the middle of winter (at least where I live!)...cold really saps the power available from the battery. the age of the battery will also make a difference. Keep in mind that no storage battery likes to be deep discharged.
