I'm looking at a 2005 CTS (3.8L with luxury pckg and moonroof); it's a dealer demo with 6,000 miles on it. It's already discountred down to emlpoyee price, and the dealer is willing to take another $2,000 off since it's a demo. Is this a fair reduction for a demo car? Seems to me like it should be reduced a couple thousand more since it has so many miles on it and since the 2006's are already out. Am I being unreasonable, or is the dealer trying to milk me a little?

Replying to: bhill2 (Aug 09, 2005 5:10 pm) As a long-time gearhead, I can understand the desire for a 6 speed car, but there is no way I can live with one as my primary transportation, given the demands of cell phones, traffic, etc. The car with the automatic is delightful. I have the sport package. The closest car I am familiar with that has similar handling is the BMW 330i, which the CTS will smoke in a drag race. For a car that rides as well and as quietly as the CTS, it sets up in a fast corner very nicely, reminiscent of BMW. Also, the steering and brakes are pretty fair. The snob appeal in my neighborhood does not seem to match BMW or Mercedes, but at least the CTS is a lot less common around here. My only reservation is the snow performance, but with the inherent balance, I expect it will be fine with the proper tires fitted. That said, your best bet is to order an 06 the way you want it and shoot for the best price you can get, knowing what the going rate on 05's is. There is not enough new on the 06 to make it more desireable, so I dont think you should have a lot of trouble getting a decent quote for an ordered car. Dont be surprised if they make you give a non-refundable deposit though, because very few other people walk into a Caddy dealership looking to shift for themselves. That was clear by the wealth of 6 speed V's sitting on the lot collecting dust with even deeper discounts than the 3.6's. The V would be fun for a few weeks, but I dont think I would be able to keep my foot out of it, which would lead to unwanted attention from the law. It is more fun to go fast in a slow car than it is to go slow in a fast car.

Replying to: panzer (Aug 15, 2005 2:46 pm) in case all you folks don't know yet - for 2006 the CTS-V will have an automatic trans option - as well as LS2 engine. a dude at work has an XLR. he said he bought it at a chevy dealer that just added the cadillac franchise too. he admits that he is very picky but is not fully pleased with his dealership. i can probably get more details from him if others are interested , but probably i'd have to plant that info on "XLR buying experience" thread instead, if there is one. i'll probably suggest to him that he visit edmunds.com himself and tell us all what's what with his XLR. |

I have an offer in writing for an '06 CTS with luxury package and power sunroof, no other options. Offer is for $35,628. With the SmartBuy incentive, botom line price is $33,378, plus TTL. Is this a good deal? Should I try for better at same dealer or elsewhere? |

I purchased an '05 CTS in early July and have had to have the catalytic converter replaced 2 weeks after purchase due to the check engine soon light coming on. Two weeks after that, I had to have the shift differential replaced and am now having to have it replaced a second time due to grinding noises when backing up and make turns. Has anyone else out there experienced anything like this with an '05 CTS? Sounds to me like I have a lemon. I would appreciate any comments.
