#2439 of 2921 The End To A Lemon : 2005 Mustang Convertible

For those who thought I was just upset about being "passed by a GT" or those who just didn't believe the water leak problem. My car has been Lemoned by the BBB. Ford has completed the buy back worksheet and issued the dealer the package for vehicle replacement. For those that do have this problem, make sure you get as much paperwork as you can supporting the damage claim. Just don't waste your time with Ford they will NOT help you. Contact the BBB it took 6 mons 9 days, but I did eventually win.

Sorry to hear of your woes...what state are you in? Here in Florida our lemon law is pretty solid. Write a personal letter to Ford's CEO, outline the problem, attempted resolution, people you talked to at Ford, and final outcome (involving BBB). Also contact your local media affiliates, they love this kind of story. Good luck.

Just took Mustang survey, sent to me by email by Ford.
List of things I would want to see, in no particular order:
1. Locking gas tank lid that opens from the inside.
2. Aux input on the stereo
3. Satellite radio
4. Perfomance options offered by Ford:
a) cold intake
b) supercharger
c) perfomance exhaust
d) perfomance tires
e) better brakes
Would be willing to pay as much as $10,000 more for performance features. Don't care a whit for cosmetic adornments, like hood scoops or stripes.
5) Nicer wheels (like the $1400 optional aluminum wheels on the Vette Z06 -- no chrome paleez!)
6) More colors to choose from (better paint quality)
7) But the most important improvement, by far: independent rear suspension!!
They asked some detailed questions about which engine options I would prefer and be willing to pay an extra grand for. Seems like they're thinking of offering a 370 HP twin turbo V6 that gets better mileage than the 4.6 liter V-8. Yum yum.

Hmm...
1. Still not available.
2. Standard for '07.
3. Optional Sirius has been available since MY06
4. Go to the Ford Racing Performance Parts site. They have all your requests for sale and all carry a full warranty.
5. See #4 above.
6. Ford has killed off at least 2 colors and added 2 or more each year of the new Mustang's existence. That's not enough for ya?
7. Keep dreaming. But don't be surprised if an SE Mustang has an IRS shortly after the IRS equipped Camaro and Challenger arrive.
I'm pretty sure the Duratec35 has already been announced for the Mustang in '09 so a twin turbo V6, which the 35 is built for, is not out of the question IMO.

4. Want Ford to sell a car w/ these options, w/ full warrantee. Am strictly a bone stock user.
5. Colors offered are standard. Would like the option to customize colors -- remember the metallic sky blue of the '57-8 Eldorado? Paint quality is below average (pits, silver color is dull).
7. They must be thinking of offering independent suspension at extra cost, because they asked if I was willing to pay extra for it if available. The solid rear axle is the single worst mechanical design flaw of the car, imo.
Round-spoked 18" wheels suck, look like wagon wheels. Don't match the square lines of the car at all, imo. Would like to see some tasteful wheels, e.g., like those on the GT500 or C6Z06 Vette.
They also asked if I would mind if the new engine was built by a foreign company (they gave a list: Mazda, Toyota, etc.). Hell yes, I'd mind! Car is already being built on a Mazda line. If it has a Mazda engine, why even call it a "Ford"?

The V6 sounded interesting, but still love the droan of the V8. How about a Shelby motor/gearbox option? I like the shaker hood so that would catch my eye. Not a big fan of the current spoiler, wish something along the lines of a CDC/Xenon design was an option. Also wish Ford would go to electric fans, more efficient and puts more hp in the back.
Inside would like the aluminum pedals like the GTO comes with. How about a 160 speedo option?
Last but not least a cloaking device to hide from our dedicated law enforcement comunity............

Well, you could buy a GT500 or Shelby GT for some "stock" goodies now if you want to get technical. I'm a bone stock user myself but I've watched some shows where they bolted some of the aftermarket stuff on to an '05 Mustang and a 5 year old could do it. Let's just say I am now intrigued.
5. Customize colors from the factory? Good luck with that!

I'm assuming you're talking about the "Bullitt" style wheels? I have the other 18" wheels on my '06, often called "fanblades", and I find them rather nice. They are the wheels Ford used on the concept Mustang back in '03 or '04. IMO Ford does have a wheel for everyone right now. That's what the Mustang is all about. What it's not about is customization from the factory.
Hell yes, I'd mind! Car is already being built on a Mazda line
I second that! Technically AAI is joint owned and not a Mazda plant. Ford has built vehicles there for quite some time now. I had the other car that's built there for a couple of years before I replaced it with the Mustang. It's amazing that two such different vehicles can roll down the same line.

Mine is an '06, has 13,000 miles, been groaning in turns since 6,000 miles. I tried syn lube and moly, but I suppose it needs an adjustment or different friction discs. I'd rather live with the noise than have other guy's hands in there. Has anyone had any real consequences such as a lock up or fragmentation?

The V6 doesn't have electric fans?
