I just got my new SR5 V6 4runner and it is great.
I notice one thing with the brakes. There is a hissing sound like air that comes from the brakes when I depress the pedal. They seem to work fine but the noise is a little bothersome. Does anyone else have this with their vehicle. I wouldn't mind it so much if it is common.

You might want to check out TMV new car prices, used car pricing, used car values at Edmunds.

I am no mechanic, but I've had the same question and this is the answer I received. The 4Runner used a hydrolic system for its breaks. Every three to four times that you use your breaks, the system needs to recharge, and you will hear a noise associated with breaking, something about a pump recharging the hydrolic reserve. This is far from a technical answer, but I think that your hissing sound accurately describes the noise. I hear the same thing on my 4Runner.

I have the exact same problem with my 99 4Runner.
The weather doesn't have to be cold, just the car shouldn't have been started in the last 8 hours. Once it starts I can turn it off and on at will fairly easily.

I just pulled out the battery and had it tested and it seems to be working fine. All that I hear is a "click" and then I try a couple of times with "click" and then the engine starts fine.

It seems to be getting worse, as it would just click maybe like once a month, but this week it seems that it is happening much more frequently.

This is the first time I have posted any questions and I am kinda new to this all but I have a 2004 4wd 4Runner and I reciently backed into a guy and was wondering if I can paint the back gray fender right above my towing hitch or if I have to replace it. Also has anyone installed a wind guard on the sunroof and how much it costs.

I have the same make and model and my breaks do it as well... it seems to be normal as far as I am concerned. I have had mine for almost a year and I have never had a problem with the breaks...knock on wood.

Low compression by rmc7

First time here, I have a 93 v-6. The problem is i lost power going down the road and the motor died as i pulled over. It didnt have power up a small hill when i accellerated. The truck has gotten hot once before from a radiator leak that was just in the red on the gauge. And it was in normal range this time but was hot when it died. I let it cool down for about a hour, put some water in about a qt. and tried to start it. The motor chuged to try and start only after i stepped on the gas about 1/4 did it start. it ran for a couple minutes roughly. So i turned it off. The temp still showed normal range. I see water all around the radiator. So a leak got it hot again iam figuring. Anyway after a waited about 30 more minutes i filled the rad. back up and started the car. It started a little better and ran OK no missing or popping and no white smoke out the exhaust. So i drove it a mile to get it off the raod and have it towed, and it ran good. It showed about 3/4 on the temp gauge so i turned it off and towed it home. I have taken the sparkplugs out and looked at them. All white with some greyish deposits on them. Did a compression check on 5 of 6 cylinders. Found 4 with low 55 psi and one with 120 psi.
Is there a way to determine if the head gasket is bad before a take it apart?? And what else could be a cause? I need you find out what else to check to point to the problem. Thanks for the help. I did have a check eng lt. code was 52 or 25.
