04 4Runner, V8, Annoying harmonic humming noise by nnvalue

04 4Runner, limited, 4.7L V8.

My 4Runner generates an annoying harmonic humming noise from the driveline at 70-75 MPH. Release the gas paddle or go faster will eliminate this noise. It started recently, after the master cylinder pressure sensor failed, which caused the trac lights on. The dealer has replaced the sensor and everything seems back to normal, except the humming noise.

I notice 2 TSBs on the similar issues (humming noise). Just wondering if anyone who has similar issues and got it fixed. Thanks in advance.

My 2003 did that for a few months. Then it went away.

03 4Runner, V6, Mystery Starting Problem by art808

I recently had a problem starting my 2003 4Runner (V6) SR5. Upon cold start in 80 degree weather, a loud repetitive noise occurred. It sounded as if the fan was hitting up against something. I immediately turned the engine off and tried again. This time it was a little slow cranking, but started, and with the same noise. But I also noticed an odor as if something was burning. I immediately turned the engine off again and waited until the next day. The next day, the engine would slowly (very slowly) crank, but would not start (did not notice any odor.) That's when I called a tow truck and towed it to Toyota's service department. Toyota didn't get to it until 2 days later; however, they told me that upon starting the engine, everything sounded and checked out normal. Sure enough, when I picked up the vehicle, it did not display any symptoms. I call this the mystery starting problem.

Anyone encounter a similar problem???

Thanks for any help or info.

'04 4Runner honking problem by lmartin99

OK, so this is going to sound weird, but I just bought a 2004 4Runner 4WD, and just recently, this little light thats under the dash light switch (which isn't in the owners manual) blinks, and it starts honking. No idiot lights are blinking, and the honking stops after a while. Anyone know what this could be so that I don't look like a complete dufus taking it back to the dealer? This car does not have an alarm.

Did you get it used? The previous owner may have installed an alarm.

You have an aftermarket alarm. Either the selling dealer or someone else installed it. Hopefully you can pull the fuse for it and still have your factory alarm.

My 2003 came equipped with a factory alarm. Although I see it's optional on 2005 models, I've yet to see any 4Runner from 2003 forward that doesn't have a factory alarm. The flashing lamp is on the radio display.

Some less than reputable dealers, like my selling dealer Roseville Toyota in Roseville, California, try to sell the unaware an optional alarm system (for $800) even though the vehicle already came with an alarm system. The dealer alarm is afermarket, not factory, and just about pure profit for the dealer.

Thanks. Yes, the dealer replaced the three belts (AC, Gen/Alt, Power Steering) when he replaced the Timing Belt--no extra charge for labor. He also checked the water pump, which can only be replaced after removing the timing belt. It didn't need to be replaced, but certainly a good time to check it. FYI - The timing belt, even at 99K was in fantastic shape!

I learned several things recently (confirmed by three dealers). If your 4Runner has a mix of 3 DENSO and 3 NGK spark plugs, you still have the original factory plugs in you truck! Second, all Toyota's spark plugs are sold pre-gapped.

Can you or anyone recommend a platinum or iridium plug for my '03 4Runner? The dealer does not show anything except the standard 30K spark plug for my '03 Runner.
