The vehicle sounds like its msrp would be around 34000. Since an 07 used probably wholesales for about 13000+ less, (check on kbb.com,nada.com) 10000 off a new one would be around what you want off. (and a good deal)

The dodge ram 1500 msrp 38000 regularly sells for 12000+ off. (a mediocre deal considering its hi msrp and 07 used wholesale ) and can be had for more off. It has a lifetime powertrain warranty. Some think the chevy's styling is better though.

Currently driving a 2003 Ram 1500 with towing option and towing the max at 8500 pounds. With 100k miles and moving to a slightly larger towing load, I just started looking.

Today at a Dodge/Chevy (small southern town) I came across this:

2007 (new) Silverado 2500HD 2WD (that's all I need since I am 100% highway) LWB with:
-5 year/100k Drive Train warranty
-2LT and Power Option package
-4 door Crew Cab
-OSRV Mirrows
-6 speed Allison Automatic
4.10 Rear end
-8,1L V8 Vortec engine

and a few other minor options.

All this for just under 24,000 + TTL

Now this seems like an excellent price to me, but not knowing the Silverado, thought I ask you kind folks opinion.

Knowing there are many factors in calculating gas mileage, I am also wonder about the MPG for this engine/Transmission combo for Freeway (400-500 mile trips) without a towed vehicle.

Any feed back would be GREATLY appreciated, Thanks

I didn't think the 8.1/4.10 combo was offered in the new style silverado/sierra. It could be an 07 Silverado Classic. That being said , it's a towing beast. probably will get no better than 13-15 with conservative highway travel. But nowadays with diesel so expensive, it's a good gas alternative to pull some weight around.

It is an 07, but still new, a leftover on a local dealers lot. I wasn't sure about the capabilities of the 4.10, but suspected that with the 8.1 and Allison 6 speed, it should be very good for towing.

With the additional cost of the diesel engine and fuel, I just can't justify a diesel and thought this sounded good for towing.

13-15 conservative highway sounds GREAT. My 5.9L Dodge Ram gets only 15-16 with passengers only highway. When I stick the trailer behind it, I get 8.2 - 9.6 mpg. Actually I just jumped to 9.6 mpg after having the truck and trailer tires purged and Nitrogen filled. Before that the best I ever got Freeway towing was 8.6.

Thanks to you both for the feedback

The 13-15 MPG is just a guess. And that's empty. Pulling a load you're probably looking at 10mpg with a light foot.

What rebates are included in that price? Sounds like a pretty good deal.

Branhap,
Does your deal include the $2000 rebate + the $2000 loyalty rebate.
I hate all these rebates, It's hard to see if you got a good deal. I guess that's the point. I operate under the rule that the vehicle should discount 10% off sticker then deduct rebates.

Yes.

$2,000 for rebate, plus $2,000 for loyalty rebate. Although Loyalty rebate doesn't really matter as Sunday Chevy added a Conquest Rebate to the Silverado even. *shrug*

With regard to discount, most of the dealers I got quotes from were in the 7 to 8% range off MSRP before rebates, with one dealership at 9.6% (but didn't like that truck as much.) For the most part. Local dealership wanted only 5% off MSRP.

My main goal is to get the truck for close to invoice, then take off the rebate.

For the most part, I did not find Edmunds TMV or the cars.com smart price to be very accurate. Just better to go in and ask for invoice price, and go from there!
