I am looking at a 2007 Miata on the dealers lot. It has 137 miles and the warranty will be in full force once it is sold. How do I figure out the TMV of the car since it is new but also old?

Invoice pricing and local jeep dealer by dc325ix

My girlfriend and I went thru and priced out the jeep wrangler unlimited and submitted it thru edmunds to the 3 jeep dealers in our area - The Jeep dealer in Greenwich CT came back with well I dont know where Edmunds gets it's invoice pricing as these numbers are off and they are low - of course she wouldnt show us her invoice numbers - I was curious if anyone else has run into this problem before - also I get well thats TMV and that doesnt represent our area, and I say to them well it does as my zip code on edmunds that I put in represents our area and on and on; it would seem to me that we use edmunds for education and the dealers that sign up for edmunds would play fair, but I think they use it as bait and switch.

I agree. Something NOT right. When I purchased my Mazda in Feb, Edmunds had it as : Invoice $18.3K, MSRP $20K, TMV $19.2K. I went to dealer and started negotiations. Figured a good deal would be $18.5 - $19K. Dealer started at $20K dropped to 17.9 w/o me doing anything. Played around, checked Cars.com, Kbb.com etc. They were the same as Edmunds. Ended up paying $17.5. I was skeptical, seemed too easy. weeks later found them selling for high 16's. Edmunds was still at original figures. Learned lesson, From now on just pit 3-4 dealers against each other and wait for best price. Will usually take 2-4 weeks. Also watch out for your trade........they will try to steal your car.

Good luck

Beware! Edmunds collects and sells your information! by nick1958

Beware! If you visit the www.edmunds.com site, your contact information is being collected and sold to others! I have long been an enthusiastic fan of the Edmunds.com website. You cannot imagine my shock, anger, and outrage at what I learned about the website today.

We are starting the process of buying a new car. My first stop, as usual, was to the Edmunds website, during which I read various reviews of the models we are considering. I then went to the “pricing” sections to see what these different models cost.

Today we visited several dealers in our area (Honda and Toyota) to look at the cars. Upon giving my name to the “greeters” at these dealerships, I was shocked to learn that they already knew all about me! Apparently, Conicelli Toyota and Conicelli Honda (both of Conshohocken, Pennsylvania) had my name and e-mail address, and knew that I had visited the edmunds website looking into the Honda Civic, Accord, and Toyota Matrix. They had this information less than 24 hours after I visited the Edmunds.com site, and had even “pre-assigned” sales people to me!

I am absolutely outraged at this blatant violation of privacy. While it is common knowledge that web providers use a variety of spyware to surreptitiously and unethically gather information on visitors to their sites and then sell these data to others, this level of intrusion is disgraceful and offensive beyond belief. I could understand if I had specifically requested quotes from dealers that they would have my contact information. However, simply viewing information on the Edmunds site does not give permission for my name and contact information to be sold.

Beware! If you visit this site, your contact information is being collected and sold to others! This violation of privacy should be widely publicized and made known to all those who innocently use the site. Edmunds should be ashamed of themselves.

The Edmunds Automotive Network never provides information to third parties without your permission (see the Edmunds Privacy Statement).

This should not come as a shock to you since you did agree to the Terms of Use when you signed on as we all do.

confused on tmv by met4

Looking at 2009 Mercedes E-350. TMV is about $10,000 less than MSRP. Mercedes is offering a $10,000 marketing support to dealers. So is tmv the same as the MSRP with the marketing support credit?

The invoice on the E350 as per edmunds is 50.3k and the TMV is 43.8k
Plus there is a10k manuf to dealer rebate...The dealer can pass this to the buyer or keep it to himself...In this economy,,,he would pass it on to you..
So my suggestion is to take TMV as 45k and then subtract 10k from it... So start at 35k and most probably settle at 37k.
Just MHO.

Thanks for the response. The confusion is that Edmunds states that they take into consideration the dealer marketing money in their TMV. I thought the same as you. So I offered the dealer 40K. No answer yet.

How often are Edmunds TMV prices updated? by markk1

Does anyone know how often Edmunds gets data for TMV pricing? I'm curious since i'm looking at buying a 2010 which came out about 6 weeks ago. The TMV price strikes me as high, if it only gets updated monthly than it may reflect just the first few that the dealers got which (while they still had 09's) on the lot.
