Since this was an ad car, the dealer was likely willing to take a hit on the price in return for showroom traffic. Happens all the time.

I appreciate the reply and respect your knowledge and answer. I have seen those "showroom traffic" type of ads before but they were always for only ONE particular vehicle. This ad was an internet ad for ALL vehicles in stock and my son picked out the one HE wanted. He said the salesman acted like he and others around knew nothing about the ad and made several calls and a conference with the sales manager about it. I was thinking maybe some kind of unknown dealer incentive or monthly sales bonus, etc. What do you think, are those things a possibility?

No way to prove it, but I think unpublished incentives are common.
Last Dec, I bought a Honda Si $2k under invoice, with Edmunds showing a $1K dealer incentive; and others got deals under mine by $1K+. Earlier this year Corolla's were selling way low, in the absence of published incentives. The only clue in both cases was that Edmunds stopped publishing the invoice figures on both cars.
So, yup, it's more than loss leaders > showroom traffic.

If the discount was for all cars in stock, I'd say this... there was definitely a sale bonus involved it if was coming up on the end of a month, and/or there was an "end date" to the discount in the ad, such as "This ad expires Sep 9 2003" (and usually 1 or 2 days after the ad runs). Since they know full well they can't posibly clear their inventory in the time allotted by the ad, they take that chance of a few people taking advantage of it.

Hi ealexand46. Volvo has owner loyalty and conquest cash incentives on the 2004 S60. Was your son a returning Volvo customer or the current owner of an Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, or Saab? If so, that would explain the additional discount that he received.

What would be a reasonably out the door price for a Camry XLE v6 with leather seats without the Navigation system Car Man in the NYC region. Also I heard the difference in cost from 2003 Camry Xle and the 2004 Camry XLE is Fifty dollars. Any truth to that!
