No, my ES 330 did not come with VSC. Good luck with your future car purchase!

Deal reported: Just got mine! by riskyb

With a little bit of previous experience, I had to play the "game" with my dealership only to a minor degree, but think I did quite well. My salesperson was 110% friendly cool and helpful so long as you keep in mind that he is a salesperson doing exactly what he is supposed to do. He can definelty be your advocate before, during and after the deal, but you must remember that fact at ALL times. Hopefully the following about my experience will help someone.

I got the ES 330 with Premium Package and insisted they change the wheels to CHROME wheels. This means everything EXCEPT Nav, ML Sound and VSC on my car. I had to do a bit of maneuvering and deflecting as they attempted to tell me first what the maximum they could subtract off MSRP was, and then suddenly it switched to the minimum they could do over invoice when I held firm (but polite) ground. That change of angle is usually a good sign.

I offered $35,000 bottom line "out the door" and they eventually accepted after standard resistance over the course of 25 minutes. This comes out to $32,040 before tax, tag, and doc fee is added. No charge to change the wheels either. Boy, they sure add additional good looks to my car!

My two cents: Engage your salesperson in the exact same manner he engages you and do not let any uncertainty pass by if you do not understand something he says, or if he says it too fast. Back him up frequently and ask him to restate if needed, or call him out politely if he morphs something you just said into something that is not quite what you meant or wanted. Show him you are listening and processing everything he says and represents. It will cause them to focus more of their engery on the actual facts of what they say rather than "sales speak"... a better quality of dialogue in my view.

But the most important thing I did (and you can do) has to do with timing. I walked into the lot after-dark one hour before closing time on the LAST day of the month. I knew exactly what I wanted and the lowest reasonable price I wanted to pay. In a nutshell, everyone (except me!) is tired, hungry and wants to go home... yet every sales organization will ALWAYS want their monthly numbers as shiny as possible, especially the volume-style dealers. Not only does this establish a firm quicker end to what is often by design a draining and drawn-out negotiation process (whether or not you are successful by the way), but it also helps to weigh things more in your favor precisely at the time of the month they are most eager to do a "close to unreasonable" deal. Try it sometime, its worked for me well in the past. Let me know what you think. By the way... just why does the credit/finance guy always tower over you in the height of his chair? Coincidence?

Overall, it was an extemely good experience and I am more than satisfied with my salesperson, dealership and of course my shiny new Lexus!

Buying Experience by cliffordransom

A lot has been said about a better buying experience at Lexus dealers. My experience is that the two I've dealt with is that they are just another marginally ethical car dealer just like all the others. They tried to play all the typical dealer tricks that I've ever heard of and experienced over the years. Tried to offer me thousands less than Blue Book for my trade-in. Sure they offered me coffee and soda but so does my Honda dealer.
I love the car and would love to have one but I will probably go back to my Honda dealer who treats us with respect for our intelligence and doesn't play 'car salesman' games.

Not a good experience.

Just closed a deal by anteater203

on my new ES 330 for $31,200 in the Dallas area. It has what this dealership calls a premium plus package, which is the premium package plus heated seats, hi-discharge headlights, rain sensing wipers and rear shade. Sticker price $34,734. I'm not picking up the car until Dec. 23, as it is a Christmas gift for my wife. Now I am going to be shopping for an extended warranty. After I told the manager I would shop for the warranty he offered the Lexus 7/100,000 warranty for $1500. What has anyone else's experience been in shopping Lexus dealers on the warranty? Higher - lower?

Gekko2: Buying Experience by riskyb

Ok Gekko2, I checked out post #190. Are you asking about the MSRP of my car?

The original MSRP of my car was $34,734. The Chrome wheels added an MSRP of $1700 for a total MSRP of $36,434. I drove off "out the door" at $35,000. The base sale price before sales tax, doc fee and license was $32040. According to my math this is $4394 below MSRP. Hope this helps.

Looks like from the recent posts people are buying 330 with less than $200 over invoice now. You did not see that on 300 until the last year (2003). Now in the first year (well really just three months) of an 330 it's already selling at around invoice. What gives? I guess the demand for the new ES isn't that strong after all?

Offering $1K over invoice rejected by slowflyn
Dec 05, 2003 (11:43 am)
Offered the local dealer $1K over invoice on a 04 with Prem Pkg, heated seats, adj pedals, etc. and they were not interested. Anyone in the NW found a Lexus dealer that is selling an ES in this price range?

Invoice Price by elderkong
Dec 05, 2003 (1:34 pm)
I have been dealing with a dealer in Orange County, California who states a willingness to sell me a ES330 for $200 above invoice. The car has a premium plus package (no NAV, but heated seats, HID lights, etc.). The problem is that I think he's inflated his invoice price. He told me that the invoice on this car is $31,370 (leaving me with a purchase price of $31,570 plus taxes and registration). That seems too high of an invoice price to me. Does anyone know what the true invoice price is for the ES330 with the premium plus package? I do not trust the information on Edmunds. Also, what have you been paying for the extended warranty?
