Hi Don,
I don't have an answer to your question...but I was wondering if you got Toyota Canada to accept the warantee from Toyota USA? I have heard that the warantee is null and void once you import to Canada.

I have heard from posts on this board that Toyota will honour their warranty but Honda will not.

Toyota will cover your warranty in Canada for US made vehicles, no question at all. In fact, if you find yourself in Mexico you could fix the transmission there as well...anywhere in North America it is honoured.

Take care.

Honda considers exported vehicles to be "grey market" and will not provide warranty coverage.

Some have had success with bringing it back to the US dealership for work to be done, but I wouldn't, and don't recommend it to my customers. Assume you lose the protection if you import Hondas.

You will have a long search finding a Toyota dealer to sell directly to you. I am not discouraging your attempt, but they are under significant pressure from head office to specifically not sell new vehicles for export to Canada.

Best wishes with your quest. Plenty of options exist to work around this of course, and any and all models can be imported....just need to work around the protectionist policies.

Take care

Ralph,

You are 100% correct and I misspoke when I posted back in January. The states have reciprocal arrangements to allow for just what you suggested.

Quoting for long trips has become very difficult lately. It has certainly become more pricey with the bump in fuel costs. Plenty of good, but small shippers are finding it hard to keep head above water. I advise anyone looking to consider a number of factors before booking as often the cheapest quote is not the best. The trip down and back can be enjoyable and cost effective as long as the miles added and time spent are worth it.

Take care

We have just imported a 2008 Porsche Cayenne last week. All we need is a recall clearance letter from the US dealer. We do not have to get any letters from Porsche manufacturer or Canadian Porsche dealer. We are not required to go to the Canadian Porsche dealer to do any modifications.
