Hi There,

I was reading this forum and thought I would respond. I just got my 06 GX470 with sport package on Friday... but I lease all my vehicles so I can drive new every 3 years. I am assuming you bought. I live in MN and I got offered $3000 off MSRP as an opening offer. I didn't think that was a good deal. I called a National leasing company to check rates for the lease and that is when I was informed for sure that it was not such a good deal. He was able to get me the same car with an MSRP of $57,358 for $49,900 plus $600 for shipping for a total of $51,506. My rate ended up at 5.6%, but I was only offered 5.5 at Lexus. My payment is about $755 a month. I am happy with that deal. They were great to work with and they delivered the car right to my house. I dont think you got ripped off, I think its just typical of the dealership. Lexus, BMW, Ranger Rover...they dont like to discount their cars and for the most part they dont have to. Hope this helps a little. I love the car though and hope you too are happy with your new ride. Good Luck!!

Thanks heaps for your info. It completely confirms other research I've done--here on the forum and by "negotiating" anonymously with other local dealers. I figure that I should have gotten about $2,400 more in discount (which isn't even as good as you got). But yesterday I came up with another theory. Remember the rule that you should NEVER bring the trade-in into the new-car negotiations until after you agree on a price for the new car??? Well, I ignored that rule. I had obtained a quote on my '03 from CarMax for $33,000 which was above Kelley Blue Book trade-in. My dealer offered me $30,600. When I showed them the other quote, they refused to budge. The difference in quotes was $2,400. Is it coincidental that I think they gouged me $2,400 on the new car? I don't think so. If I had accepted their low quote, they would have certified the old car and made a bundle in profits. I might have gotten $2,400 more of a discount on the new car, but the net result would have been the same as I now have. However, if I had kept my high quote in my pocket and done a better job of research/negotiation before agreeing to a price on the new car, I'd be at least $2,400 richer today. So, finally, you're quite right--a dealer will get just as much as he can. What irritates me most is that this is the 5th Lexus I've bought from the same dealer and same salesman. Customer loyalty means nothing, and I naively thought it did. Good lessons for forum readers: 1. shop and research 'til you drop and 2. leave your trade-in out of new car negotiations until after you agree on the best price for the new car. Again, many thanks--the more I can confirm I was right, the better I feel. And yes, I love the new car--it's the best SUV out there!

Good Deal on 2005? by jap2

I received an offer of $47,298 on a 2005 GX470 with an MSRP of $51,298. I am in New Orleans and of course a lot of folks are buying after the storms and there's only one dealership. It seems that either I need a better deal on the 2005 or it makes sense to go for the 2006. Any advice. I need to buy this week!

Your dealer no doubt has a captive audience down there. If I were you, I would get on the Internet and start negotiating with a couple or three other dealers in near-by states. At this point in the model year, they should be selling 2005's for just a bit over invoice. It would be worth the extra $2,000 or more in savings to travel to another dealer to take delivery. If you're not getting a good deal on the 2005, I'd bet that the deal on the 2006 at your local dealer would be far worse. I've found Internet negotiating to be quick and easy. SUV's are not moving well right now. You are in a buyer's market, if you can just find a person willing to negotiate. Hope this helps.
Let us know how you do.

Although I have recently purchased a 2006 GX470 in Orange County, California, I am still receiving Internet quotes from various dealers via their automated e-mail system. Long story short, just received an internet fleet quote from a So Cal dealer for a November sales event advertising all 2006 GX470's for a cost of FACTORY INVOICE.

Which means that if I would have waited another month I would saved the $1300 (over factory invoice)I paid. OUCH!

FACTORY INVOICE? Can you name the dealer? What site did you use for your internet search? I'm in the market (most likely next month) and I understand from one dealer that they have their annual sales event in December, starting on the 5th. Sounds like your guy may be jumping the gun?

A national paper would like to hear from consumers who are back looking at SUVs with the drop in fuel prices. If you have a story to share about how you had put your search on hold, but are now looking at SUVs again, please respond to ctalatiedmunds.com with your daytime contact info., city/state of residence, and the make/model(s) that you are looking for no later than Wednesday, November 9, 2005

The dealer is Crown Lexus, Ontario CA. Here is a partial copy of the text:

The Internet Department at Crown Lexus is proud to announce our?November Sales Event on all 2006 GX 470s.

Through November 30, 2006, all GX 470s will be sold to our customers for a special Internet price of??FACTORY INVOICE!

This computes to savings from $6,214 on the base model to $7,559 on the navigation/rear entertainment/sport package model.

Basically for the internet search I just went to each dealers internet site and requested internet quotes. We are lucky that So Cal has so many Lexus dealers within the area we live (within an hour to 2 hours drive). There are probably at least 10 dealers in this greater So Cal region.

Good Luck!

Any idea if this is a national promotion or limited to So. Cal dealers or just this dealer? What a great deal on this vehicle!
