I'm still comparing GX470 with MB ML350. It appears that dealers now are more willing to lower their prices due to high gasoline price and decreased interests in SUV's. I got an offer of $48,000 for the same 06 GX470 configuration as yours from a local Lexus dealer; an offer of an 06 ML350 at the inovice. We reason that probably if we wait for a while, the downward pressure on pricing will be even greater.

Dealers make more money on "holdbacks" from car manufactures, so turn over rate for them is more important than haggling a few hundred bucks away from a customer. One more day parking in the lot is one day loss for the dealers.

The advantage for us is that we have the money in our pockets: we decide when to buy and from whom to buy.

Jim,

From which dealer did you get your offer on the GX470? Thanks.

Hi Jim -- Regardless of which SUV you buy, I'll be interested to know which Lexus dealer you're talking to. Frankly, even with all I've been reading in the media about SUV sales, I'm surprised that Lexus is discounting so early in the model year. This is as it should be, and probably also reflects Toyota's wish to maintain the huge market share it's established in the U.S. BTW, I highly recommend last week's Barron's article about Lexus.

Hmmmm.....at the same time, I wonder if it's going to be a struggle to get a decent price for my 2003 GX!!!

You and jim becker both specify "06" as the model year for your $48,500 and $48,000 quotes. I've been checking Internet sales for a couple of dealers and their offers are more in the $51,500 range (which is $3,000 higher). The higher price seems more in line with what Lexus would do on their new model 06. Even Kelley Blue Book lists the "New Car Blue Book Value" as $51,231. The lower prices seem more like what they're getting for their end-of-year 05 inventory. Nobody's named a dealer that's offering those very low prices--so I'm waiting before I stick my neck out in negotiations. Can y'all confirm that these rock-bottom prices are, indeed, for 06's, and, if so, what dealer????

Many thanks.

Purchased 2006 GX 470 based on the below config (no rear entertainment system) from Lexus of Westminster in Orange County, CA for $47,500 (w/o tax, license, title). Most Internet quotes for this same config were $47,880. Internet quotes from other dealers which included the Rear Entertainment System were $48,995 (Keyes Lexus, Van Nuys, CA) to $49,096 (Lexus of Riverside,Riverside, CA). $48,500 seems to be an acceptable and reasonable counteroffer. However, the price of $48,000.00 seems to be on the very low side for a quoted price.

Sport Package deal by rappcova

I just purchased an '06 with Sport Package and have assembled quite a bit of evidence that my dealer didn't give me a very good deal. Partly my fault for not "shopping around". I'd be glad to discuss it, but want to hear from somebody else who's bought one with Sport Package before going into details. Anybody out there?

Well I got mine for what was essentially $1500 off MSRP. I didn't want to wait, so I paid market price (or not) at the time. I am sure you did better than that.

Hmmm....Yes, I would guess you could have done better. Your deal certainly doesn't help my case. I got mine for $2,800 off MSRP. Still would like to hear from anyone who thinks he/she got a good deal on the Sport Package equipped 06.
Thanks.
