I think its more of a ground clearance problem. I flat tow mine with no problem, and I suspect mechanically it could be dolly towed.

HHR Test Drive by barnee61

I recently test drove an HHR. Really, really like the exterior styling and the interior functional utility. I drove one with the 2.4 "premium" engine and auto. The driving experience was ... well ... underwhelming to say the least.

Note to the General's beancounters, who seem intent on placing crappy Ecotec "world" engines in all their vehicles: I will buy an HHR as soon as you install a proper drivetrain. Put in the 3.5 you put in the Equinox / Torrent ... something ... anything ... but the 2.2 and 2.4 Ecotecs are completely inappropriate for this vehicle. My two cents....

While a V6 in the HHR would be great I believe a smaller 4 cylinder is more appropriate. It's about the sizae of a Corrolla/Civic/Vibe/Matrix which also only have 4's.

Get out your checkbook, unless you don't consider the upcoming 260hp 2.0l turbocharged engine coming in the 2008 HHR SS to be a proper drivetrain.

Vehicles like this seem to always be introduced with somewhat tepid engines, because the manufacturers know the initial interest will be driven by the look, not the power. After a couple of years they introduce sportier, hi-po versions to draw in others to the fold...same basic play used with the PT Cruiser.

I played with the 2.2 5spd and I found it to be quite fun
for the money...but not in my top 5. A turbo would definatly
move it up several spaces!

"crappy Ecotec "world"

You probably will never see a V6 in this compact. I don't know of any crappy Ecotec engines, and placing a corporate 4-cylinder into many models is the automotive norm.

Crappy is my own opinion of course, others will obviously disagree. I've driven the Ecotech in many GM vehicles (Saturns, Cavaliers, Cobalts, Olds Alero etc.) and I don't find they have a smooth or particularly well-refined power delivery. They have the horsepower and torque but you really have to thrash them to get at it. HHR is a little heavier than other vehicles that they put the Ecotech in, and I found it underpowered for the vehicle.

I hope you are wrong that we will never see a V6 in the HHR, because a small V6 would seem perfectly suited to it.

Well said Barnee61, there seems in certain circumstances a minor sort of lag time of get-up & go unless you smash the peddle...then it's all "on"....maybe a 5 or 6 speed automatic would smooth out the power delivery of the 2.4L ecotec? I have a manual 5 speed 2.2L Alero also & I never get that same all "on" or "off" sensation from it as I get from my wife's 2.4L auto HHR.

We just bought a new HHR & the salesperson didn't show us how to open the fuel tank door. I know sounds crazy but would appreciate someone telling us where the switch is to open it. The dealership is closed & we have looked everywhere.
thanks
