A lot of our members use fitzmall.com as a baseline price, if they don't have any comparables listed in the Prices Paid forums.

You can search their inventory, and they list the MSRP and invoice of each unit, as well as their no-haggle price..

Most of their '09 units seem to be priced around $2500 off MSRP, for units in your basic price range.

Check it out!

regards,
kyfdx

You can get the Invoice and MSRP price right here

http://www.edmunds.com/toyota/rav4/2009/index.html

It is accurate and checks out with either Fitzgerald site or 2 other dealers that have sent me offers.

I have been offered invoice at one dealer and $300 below invoice at another.
You should have no problem getting any model rav today at invoice and prolly up to $300 less.
Have you not read previous posts ?

They are prolly lying in their invoice. Use Fitzs or Edmonds as mentioned before , and even that may be high. NO one is buying cars.
My local dealer is offering me $100 under invoice and I have not even started negotiating with him yet.
Dealers sell at below invoice all the time, and still make money. Read back for the last 3-4 pages ( not 3-4 posts) and see how they work.

I have read ALL the posts. I understand what actual dealer invoice is and the holdback. Many of the posts refer to "estimated price," MSRP, or something else that makes it tricky to understand how well the buyers are doing. As I posted previously, the dealers are printing me their two-page "dealer cost" which ADDS the holdback into the price, plus advertising and other miscellaneous expenses I don't even look at. Then they offer to sell at 3% above the phony cost, or about 5% above true invoice.

If you are getting offers to sell to you at below invoice, you're lucky or doing a good job. Fitzmall is offering $300-$400 below invoice on the Limited I am looking for, but out here in Oregon, I am having a difficult time coming within $800 of invoice.

Hi Cyclist_Chick:

I hope that you really enjoy the ride and still checking this forum for awhile. I got the spreadsheet ready and came to SM dealer tonight but it did not work out. Therefore, I would like to ask you again:

1) T.M.F (Toyota Marketing Fund) ~ $770. I removed this. Did you pay this fee?
2) PIO (Pre Install Option) Holdback? How about this?
3) 2% Holdback MSRP? I assume that this fee was taken out?
4) 1% Finance Fee. You said that this was taken out
5) Destination/Handling fee ~$740. The spreadsheet tells me it's required?
6) What is your Dealer profits %?

It would be great if you could list out.

They also asked your "last" name or last 4 VIN# & purchase date to match those options above and I was stuck because the manager could find "Chick" on the list? Would you please help. I learned that you were a new buyer but you picked up and close the business so fast. Thanks a bunch.

I have the answer to my own question . I just left a dealer and looked at the sticker invoice. They QY package at $1360 dollars includes 4 options that total $3360 and then it says $3360 minus $2000 buying incentive, making the QY $1360.
Three dealers that I spoke with, including Fitz did not know about this . Some cars have been shipped without this incentive (either QY or QZ ) and have a MSRP $2000 over the exact same car configured with the options listed individually.
Everyone beware . There are cars out there that were shipped without this $2000 incentive and they will try to sell them to unsuspecting buyers, especially seeing as how they do not know about it themselves.
So this is really a hidden $2000 incentive Toyota put on car, showing they are having a tough time selling them

I ended my quest for a 2009 Toyota RAV4 today, since dealers are not really dealing with these cars. I'm only able to get $400 over invoice and feel there are better deals to be made, and I don't like this "take it or leave it attitude", especially in this market.

I guess a Honda man will always a Honda man, and I'm fine with that!

Ciao!

My car has the same config + Stow 3rd (~$600). In Houston, they asked for ~$26K (after $1K rebate) + TTL but I did not accept it. Probably you can have it around 25K + TTL after rebate. $25900 + TTL after rebate is not acceptable for 2008. Good luck.

My experience so far has been similar--although I would be happy to get $400 over invoice. I guess I just do not understand the business model. I don't get why dealers will basically insult you if you offer them $500 over invoice on cars they have sitting in a back, fenced lot not even offered for sale. Only the 2008s are being marketed. So what is it that causes them to turn down $1000+ profit on a car where there are no other buyers because they want to make $2000? I just don't get it.

Guess I need to read some more car buying tips.

Have you looked at Fitzmall for proof that PA MD dealers are selling 2009 cars under invoice.

 http://www.fitzmall.com/fitzway/carfind/resultsa.asp

Aside from that dealer , have gotten 1 offer for invoice , and another dealer at $350 ( Fitz) under invoice and a local crook that I suspect will not keep his word in some way or another offering $27,900 for invoice of $28,504.

Just in case invoices vary these cars are offered from $2500 to $2990 off MSRP . Where are you and how far from a reasonably competitive market ?
