Negotiating to buy an 08 Rav 4 limited v6 4x4 by pugzgirl

I'm wondering if anyone out there has recently purchased a loaded rav4 with an MSRP of 31,184 in the Chicago area. It has leather, moonroof, heated seats, 6cd, etc. What price did you get?

So far, the best quote I have received is 27,481. I have been frustrated because the dealer claims that the invoice price is 27,070 before any options are added on. So how does the consumer know what the actual invoice price is? Do you go by the national base price of the vehicle or do you go by the invoice price after options are added. I'm not sure if this price is the best I can get or not. I tried to get them to offer me the SUV for 26000, they acted as if there was no way they would come down to that price.

Thanks for the advice!

have a look at my car!!! by kirsten308333

i bought a 08 base 4wd with FE CD DR AA RL CF MF.I am in OHIO.The msrp is 24400, and the final price is 21900+tax+doc.Maybe it is not a good price, but what i am really not satisfied is that my car odometer is already 235 miles. I am a new student here, so at the start i think it is normal. But some people told me that it is a car for drive test, so it ran for 235 miles.

What can i do? Exchange another car? Ask for some compensation?

Really need your guide and advice.

My e-mail is kirsten308333hotmail.com.

Looking forward to your information.

Did you sign off on the deal and take delivery? If so, you are out of luck..

If you are in Ohio, you definitely signed an odometer disclosure statement, in all that paperwork.. So, claiming you didn't know about the mileage until after delivery would be a hard case to make..

IMO, 235 miles is really no big deal.. but, that's just my opinion..

Well you are getting a much better price than I was got on my initial request. My first dealer offered me a price of
$28,6120 on a MSRP of $30,400 . So your deal looks a lot better , but someone more knowledgeable should step in and help us both . I am in the New York city area and searched New Jersey also

thank you for your information.

can you tell me the 235 miles is the test driver miles or the delivery mile of the car?

Not sure how I'd know that..

Look at your window sticker.. Is your dealer's name on the sticker, or some other dealer? If it's some other dealer, then they probably traded for your car, and the car was probably driven to your dealer... You can figure the difference, and see what is attributable to the swap..

If it has your dealer's name on the sticker, then those are either test-drive miles, loaner car miles, or a salesperson using the car for his personal transportation.. I'm not sure it really matters which one (or, even how you'd find out) ... It's only 235 miles...

Here's the story, actually i was looking to buy 08 Rav4 limited v6 leather seat AWD but they try to persuade me to buy limited v4 FWD which they have in stock. So i made an offer 26000 OTD with leather seat plus trade in price for my car 9500 and i will put downpayment for 4000. after i made my offer they call manager to deal with me and surprisingly after a big while of talking he said yes with 26000 OTD with leather seat. Then he passed it back to the finance person. The finance person didnt say anything and start to ask me to sign the paper. I was wonder all a long and asked to see the detail of the price and the amount that i have to finance. When i saw the total amount that i have to finance he put 19,xxx so i asked him why the total amount to finance come up to 19000 because the deal we agreed is at 26000 OTD so the amount we finace should be 26000-9500(trade in) = 16500. So the finance called manager to come in again and then i ask this guy the deal that we agreed is at 26000 OTD riight? why 19000 came from? the total to finance should be only 16500. The finance guy try to convince me that i dont need to look at that amount if i can get co sign, the monthly payment will be less. But i keep asking about the total amount to finance So he pretend to calculate and look in the computer and then tell me oh that was because of the extended warrantees if you dont want it i will take it out for you. (I have no idea when i told him i want extended warrantee and he put it for me without my permission)Then he passed it back to the finance guy and this time i signed everything and came out from his office to go get the car suddenly my bf reminded me about hey whay about 4000 downpayment that we put!!!!!!! I totally forgot about the downpayment and they didnt mention anything the second time that he fix the finance amount from 19xxx to 16500. The amount to finance MUST BE 26000-(9500trade in+4000downpayment)=12500. So i ran back to the office and ask what happening here? why they doing business like this,it ridiculous!!!!! We been dealing with them almost 4 hours and at the end i found out they try to rip me off. Then the manager guy just tell me oh no no no i coulndt give you 26000 OTD. It's the totally different story when we made a deal. So i cancelled everything. I am very disappointed and angry on how this dealer doing business, SHAME ON THEM

I understand what you are saying. For far too long, many car dealers get away with these bad practices. Why? Consumers accept it and pay the high prices. I'm glad you were not roped into their schemes. I have been in that situation myself. I'm dealing with two dealers right now trying to get the price down. If one dealer does offer me the price I want, (I can wait patiently) I'll tell him to send me a copy of the paperwork BEFORE I come in so I can read it at home with no PRESSURE at the car dealership. Try that and see what they say. If they want to sell a car, there's no reason a reputable dealership cannot send you the information by fax or in an e-mail for you to look at. Good luck and thanks for the info!

great experience with Fitzgerald Toyota in Maryland by vladesquire

I bought a RAV FWD Base 4 Cyl model with factory installed standard options (roof rack, daylights, cargo cover and net, CD AM/FM etc.) for $19,850 from Fitzgerald Toyota in Maryland. the only thing this price does not include is taxes and registration, which should come to about another $700. Because I said I will register and title the car in VA myself, they waived the $99 processing fee, and gave me a 60 days temp tag for $15.

I dealt with Harry Dayal and he was great. I did this entirely on line, contacting pretty much all the dealers in Richmond and DC area. With Fitzgerald, it was pretty much what you see is what you get - no gimmics, no hidden fees etc. When I sent Fittzgerald's quote to the next two cheapest dealers, they both said we can't match this price, so if you can get it that cheapely, go for it, so I did!

Do you guys and gals think I got a good deal?
