hi,
I'm a newbie to this forum, but it looks very informative.
Do you guys have any opinion about Fitzmall?

The internet price is lower than invoice.
Is it a good place to buy a new car?

My current address is in Arizona.
In that case, do I need to pay the tax?

Any comments will be appreciated.

Thanks,

SC

Hi,
I bought a new V6 limited 4WD (no leather) 2 days ago at $300 below "invoice". I will post my figures soon, but briefly, I obtained a true invoice of the vehicle I bought in Michigan.

In addition to the Edmunds invoice, the invoice sheet included the TDA (I think it is a legitimate charge). The invoice price included about $450 as "dealer holdback" and about $240 as wholesale residual or some similar term. These items were clearly listed on the invoice price sheet. The final invoice price was about $26930 I think.

The dealer initially offered me a quote of $27030, ie $100 over invoice. I had contacted a few dealers via email, and stated that I would buy from the one with the best online quote. He also stated there would be an extra $200 documentation fee.

I asked him to reduce his price, and he agreed to waive the doc fee, and agreed to $300 below invoice. The whole transaction took 15 mins. It was very painless, and I think I could have gotten even lower. I only paid state tax and license and registration.
Anyways, I think I got a good deal. I would suggest that car dealers are pretty willing to deal in the current (Michigan) economy, so keep trying to get a price below invoice.

I was wondering if I could get a little guidance? It looks like the Retail on a Sport 2WD is $22,825 plus the freight charge of $735 equals $23,560. How low do you think I can go?

Everyone tells of what they get as far as invoice price above and below.I was wondering as what everyone one is doing with your trade in's?Are you selling privately? Is the best approach to start off not talking trade and then work it in after you hit dealer price?I have an 06 CR-V AWD Base model with 45,000.I have been unhappy with it and like the RAV4 style better.I feel I have a "good" trade with some leverage.Any thoughts?

marksj1 - you are correct to leave out any talk about a trade until AFTER you have negotiated your best deal. This is the only way you will find out how much they are really giving you for your old car. You should use www.kbb.com to see what your old car is worth as a trade-in and as a private party sale. Also, don't forget that CARMAX will buy your car from you even if you do not buy a car from them. They will appraise your car and give you a quote that is good for one week.

colfaxwolf - it's hard to answer without knowing the options that are on the vehicle. According to edmunds.com, the invoice for that vehicle (including freight and without any options) is $21,797. There is no harm in starting with that and let the dealer take it up from there. Remember, they want to sell the car MORE than you want to buy it.

One minor comment. I'm seeing the freight charge on edmunds.com as $685 not $735. You might want to check that.

I got a quote from the UPromise Auto Buying website for $22,633. The msrp is $24,020 and the invoice is $22,933. I think that would be a great price. That would be the price before I add any optional equipment. It is on the base V6 model.

Hey guys!
Just got a quote on a Rav4 Sport 4wd V4 and wanted to know what you all think. I don't know the acronyms you guys use, so I'll do my best to explain what it comes with. It is basically the base sport model but has the upgraded radio, tonneau cover and floor mats. No sunroof. The price is $24,000 with an OTD price of $26,690. What do you think? I'm not sure what other info I should include, but please let me know. This is a very informative forum.
