If you can get them to throw in the CF, MF and 28 for free, that's even better!

I have found this forum extremly useful in researching price I should pay for this vehicle. The one I am interested in is metallic silver and I believe the options package is F (based on Toyota website). The invoice price of this car is $28,250. I was offered this at invoice price in the SF bay area and he said he would throw in the ipod cable (which he said was $12). I left and went to another dealer who offered to sell the same car at invoice price of $28,250 + $400. Told him about the other offer and he said he could probably match it but would need approval etc. and was reluctant to throw in any freebies. Went back to the 1st dealer by email and offered to buy the car at invoice if he threw in the ipod cable, wheel locks and mud guard for free. They accepted the offer. Planning on buying this weekend. Decent deal? |

Folks, I just purchased an 08 Limited last night, and pulled off a heck of a deal. DO NOT be afraid to negotiate, make an offer, and get up to leave the dealership if they do not meet your terms...You need to do your home work when buying a car and be prepared to play hardball...The economy is tough right now, and there are MANY hungry dealerships. My RAV4: MSRP: $29,374 Invoice: $27,042 MY price: $26,500 plus tax, lic, and doc fees West Covina, Calif Toyota: James/Andrew That's right, $542 IN BACK OF INVOICE, and you can do it too. I DID NOT finance the purchase through the dealer either... In addition to this deal, I had (3) other internet managers call me to say they would go $300 in back of invoice...Some internet managers wouldn't negotiate and their prices were, from $500-$750 OVER invoice via phone conversation. I didn't purchase a dog color either. Black with Ash interior, and 11 miles on the OD. DO NOT be afraid to be a jerk if need be. Be firm, stay focused, and stick to your guns. Note, yesterday was April 12th, it was not the last day of the month. Good luck to all of you! Sincerely, JH Sandy

Replying to: watsac (Apr 08, 2008 6:23 pm) I'm back to report my case. Finally, we got another RAV4 with two more options (GN and WL) from another dealer. The final price is $24000+TTL, and we didn't finance through them. Good luck to everyone. |

I could use a little help making sure I am on the right track with pricing for the RAV4 I would like to buy. Looking at Edmunds, the MSRP of the vehicle I would like to purchase is 30,934 and invoice is 27,642 (includes destination). There is no TDA listed. Based on what I am reading the 3% holdback of the MSRP would be calculated as follows: 30,394 - 685 (destination) = 29,709 X .03 = 891.27 If I then take the total invoice price above of 27,642 - 891.27 (holdback) the total dealer cost would be 26,750.73. Is that correct? If that's the case and I agreed to a price of 27,750 the dealer would earn a $1000 profit on my sale. I'd appreciate it if I could know if this is accurate. I'm happy to provide more details if it would be helpful. Thank you very much!

Replying to: buck0086 (Apr 19, 2008 9:10 am) My offer for the vehicle as listed would be: $27,150 plus tax/lic & doc fees. This is approx $500 in back of dealer invoice. Destination charges are a dealer pass through and can't be avoided...TDA in my area is $410. Don't be afraid to play hardball...If that means walking out of the dealership, then do it...They'll chase after you !! Good Luck ! |

Replying to: buck0086 (Apr 19, 2008 9:10 am) Also, I would NOT offer the dealer an automatic profit of $1000. I would start at what you have calculated the "real" invoice price to be and let the dealer take it up from there. Remember, he will do everything he can do keep the holdback and reserve. Plus he will want to work his TDA into the deal. All of that could be as much as $1300. But make him earn it. If you give him $1000 of it right away, that's making it too easy on him. |

Replying to: daileyad (Apr 09, 2008 4:34 pm) First, why is your base invoice is lower than the base invoice of $20,611 according to both Edmunds and Consumer Reports? Does it vary by location? I live in Washington state. Second, you included Holdback into the invoice? That should not count toward dealer cost, it is money the dealer receives back from Toyota after the sale. It is part of their profit. To me you paid $500 over invoice, assuming your base invoice of $19,931 is correct. 4x4 base 4cyl $19,931.00 Freight $685.00 DELETE>>>> Dealer Holdback (2% of base MSRP) $453.00 Wholesale Financial Reserve $227.00 TDA $0.00 TH Third Row Seat $752.00 DR Roof Rack $176.00 AW 17" Alloy Wheel $448.00 RL Running Lights $32.00 CF Carpet Floor/Cargo Mat Set $126.00 TDA $419 Total Invoice = $22,796 (with TDA without holdback) You paid $23,300, a difference of $504. This is the same quote I keep receiving from Internet Managers without haggling -- $500 over invoice, where invoice includes: base invoice, options, destination, TDA and gas. For some reason, one quote left out the financial reserve and apparently built it into TDA for a $478 fee. So, does this mean my quotes are good? $500 over invoice as stated above? Thanks |
