2008 RAV4 buying in the Louisville,KY area=Time wasted by ellay

Well, it doesn't look like end of month/year is a great time in this area to be looking for a Rav4. Previous posts on here indicated there wasn't much motivation at Louisville area Toyota dealers and they were right. I've emailed and visited, and am getting quotes very near MSRP, plus one dealer just told me they'd have to charge me $250 to "locate" a Rav4 for me. That little Honda is looking better all the time. gonna have to switch forums!! Thanks for all the great insight on this thread. Ellay

Ellay,
Thanks for the quick response. I "think" the deal is OK, but who knows. The Rav have been selling fast here (Northwest Florida). Have been obsessing about for days. I think the Rav I'm looking at is a lot of car for the money after driving several other cars. As for the Extended Factory Warranty on the Certified Used Car, I'm thinking of getting it. I realize the car will still have over two years and 25K miles factory on it, but with the cost of even minor repairs these days, it doesn't seem like that bad a deal. A couple of pesky problems just out of warranty could cost you a boat load of money. Will post what happens tomorrow.

I am interested in purchasing in the Phila/Lancaster/York area and saw your price of $23448 OTD. Can you tell me where you made the deal? Thanks.

Here is the basic Information from the sticker:
Base 25840
CD Changer 200
Cargo Net and Cover 140
DRL 40
Moonroof 900
Tow Prep 160
Mats 199
Dest 685

I negotiated the following:
24000 price
1770 tax
45 reg/title processing fee
190 reg/title
10 inspection fee
12.50 tire fee

26027.50 OTD

I thought this was a fair deal, not great, not bad.
The car has turned out to have damage on the underside. (The four sides and top are fine.) I did not think I had to have a mechanic put a brand new Toyota up on a rack. At the price negotiated, do you think the dealer knew about the underside damage?
I wish you all better luck.

discourage and give up to buy at this time... by jchan68

I've done my research on price and send quite a few emails. However the prices were all near to MSRP. I went into a local dealer to test drive the car and I liked it. However, the best price is $26,880 + TTL (Rav4 2008 limited v6 with 4 options - moonroof, tow package, daylight and JBL 6 CD). The best price I've got is $26,880 + TTL. According to Edmund, the invoice price with option should be $25,418. The web price in MD shows really close to invoice and good price though! (The best is without bargain)

I'm in Austin TX and I've got quote from Dallas and Houston via email. Nobody seems interested. Perhaps, they are all in holiday mood?!

In fact, I don't need this car right now. I want it before June 1, 2008. However, I thought if I can get a good price at this time, why not!

I'm getting tired and discouraged. I'm giving up buying at this time. Perhaps, I'll buy from MD and pay to ship (Shipment is $750) later. I'll see next year.

ellay,
Since you responded to my post, I thought I'd let you know how my deal turned out.

2007 Rav 4 Limited Certified Pre-owned 11.5K miles

Upgrades
Premium Radio was the only option previous owner selected.
Vehicle also has after market tinted windows ($200.00)

According to Edmund's,

MSRP 24,530
Invoice 22,629
Smart Target Price 23,576

Dealer Price started at 25,850 when it was first traded in (Nov 07) then 23,850, then 22,994, then 22,869

I traded a 1995 Chevy Blazer for 1,200 which I didn't think I could sell around here for more than 1K (ABS would cost about 1,500 to fix according to Chevy dealer), if I could sell it at all.

New Price 21,669
                    399 Processing fees (yeah right!)
                   1324 Taxes
                       69 Title
Total Price 23,459

I also extended the factory warranty to 7 years/100K, no deductable, for 1K.

OTD price was 24,519

This seemed like as good a deal as I was going to get in this area. I'm pleased with the purchase though I HATE to spend money on automobiles! Buying autos is more akin to buying a house than say a TV or Refrigerator. Market demand is different everywhere. I hope you find what you like at a price you can live with. I think that's the best you can expect. Good luck! CB

Hey CB, I think your deal looks fine! And when you convert the pymt for that 7 yr warranty into monthly, just looks like a little extra insurance. Buys peace of mind.
I really don't hate spending the money on a car....what I hate is shopping. At least when I have to shop for furniture, it's pretty cut and dried. This car (blank) is something else. I don't like the idea of overpaying for anything. Maybe I should start questioning these Consumer Price Buying Reports....It either ain't happenin' in the Louisville area or the dealers are misreading me. I would get a new car every year if it weren't for the process. I have a great car now, but ready for a change. Just isn't going to be a Rav4 I guess unless I buy it while I'm travelling this winter, which may not be a bad idea. I go to FL soon...may be some better deals there.
Be happy with your deal and your Rav4. You did great. Ellay

Ellay,
That's exactly what I thought about that 7yr/100K deal. That's when you really need the warranty stuff too. Thought about not getting it, but my luck is not good. I just knew I'd lose the AC in July with 37K on the clock and it would cost me $1500 to fix.
I haven't had a new car since 1996. Bought the Chevy Blazer with 8K on the odometer from a private party. Can't believe the changes that have come about in that time. I could handle a new car all the time, but the payments!
Where in FL? I'm here in Fort Walton Beach. Toyota does really well here. Hope you find what you're looking for. Thanks for responding. CB
