Sticker 29,010 + 300 paint and fabric protection). We traded a 2000 Sable Wagon w/ all options (and 123k). Wholesale Book 2,800, trade-in 3,300. MA (the old one..) is a tough state for private party sales, so trade-ins are almost required. My deal(?) Sticker minus trade-in and they 'ate' the 300. (25,700). This was from the area Mega-Dealer. Their response to my first low-ball offer was sticker minus 1/2 trade-in w/o the protect package on 12/29. I came back 2 days later and got down to where I thought my wife was going to lose her favorite from the 5 dealers we visited (She did not return with me. Dealer can't play emotions that way). Area dealers averaged 9 units, with 0-1 V6 each. I got taken, but I'm not sure without the 12/31 purchase date I would have even gotten this far on a V6. Experience was quite negative. Salesman 'felt we'd be better off' with a base AWD 4cyl. Not. He refused to acknowledge the V6 demo on his lot (after each of my 3 requests to look at it). He performed a quick turn over to the sales manager (I can be quite a jerk when dealing with bigger jerks). After telling him I was well aware of how to buy a car (my offer is the only one I'll deal with, his asking price is irrelevant), he told me he didn't think 'I knew how to buy a Toyota'. They also played 'good cop / bad cop', with plenty of funky math to confuse the issue. Summary: Toyota dealers seem to be catching quite a case of VW's former arrogance, but all the BS is necessary to get your hands on one of the finest cars(?) we've ever owned (coming in just behind my '01 Highlander with 140k).

I test-drove a RAV4 tonight and was offered $21,479 which includes everything I was assured. Dealer claims the invoice was $21,729. The vehicle specs are as follows: RAV4, Base Model, 4x4, 4 cyl. w/ a roofrack and 17" wheels. Good, and if so how much better do you think I can shoot for? I don't feel like I had to work too hard for this quote just played off telephone quote with other dealers to get him this low.

Replying to: nebcarman (Feb 20, 2007 6:50 pm) Edmunds Invoice $21,255 (includes destination) - this is NOT dealer invoice. Now, it depends on where you live. If you live in Southeast Toyota (Georgia, Alabama, Florida, North/South Carolina) or Gulf States Toyota (Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, Oklahoma) you will see additional legitimate fees added on to that price that the dealer had to pay to get those vehicles on their lot. These distributorships/middlemen (Southeast Toyota and Gulf States Toyota) are a legacy from the '60s and Toyota has not been able to get rid of them due to binding contracts. I got this info from Fighting Chance that I used to buy my RAV4. Also, depending on where you live there will be varying TDA (regional advertising fees) that the dealer has to pay for, but may be willing to eat that cost to reach their sales quota and/or customer service index (csi) for the month / quarter / year. Looking at your price, it is a pretty decent price. I guess it all depends if you feel like doing the work to save maybe a couple hundred bucks more or not. I purchased a RAV4 Base FWD 4cyl with several options and paid $350 under dealer invoice. Fighting Chance uses the ideal of getting dealerships to outbid each other for your business. If you are interested in the specifics, you will have to order it for yourself. I found it to be very informative with up-to-date information. That's my two cents. I hope it helps you out with your decision.

| What would be a good price on the 2007 Rav4 Limited V6 4WD with no additional options? The MSRP is 27,165 and the invoice is 25,262. I live in New Jersey where there are 4-5 dealers close by. Please give me input. | |

Replying to: torodiesel (Feb 22, 2007 2:06 pm) Just got back from the dealer tonight. Got them down to $21,000 and I took it! We just drove home with our new ride! I'm not sure if I could have gotten much lower and even if I could I'm very pleased with where it all ended up. Thanks for the insight. Nebcarman
