Need Help In NC-RAV4 by supertortz

Hello, I am new to car buying and need some polish to make my first big purchase a wise choice to start off on.

I am interested in a RAV4 07' I was told there are no more 06' models in our neck of the woods (Jacksonville, NC) that would be a better deal than the deal being given for the 07', I am wondering if this is true...

Dealer is giving an us the number 22,700 (MSRP is 22,250 base)for a 4WD, V4 engine, basic model no frills. And about 1,000 more for V6 (what I wanted, but he says much harder to find).

What do I need to ask in particular to understand the nuances of making a deal? Should I say OTD what is your price? Should it be below MSRP? I have very good credit, and wonder what APR to negotiate for. I told him that my bank already approved me (which of course they would but I have been lazy in filling out the forms) for 5.99 rate (which is what my credit card is with them... NOW I think maybe in reality I could get a better rate....(my score is 750).

I need some help, I am a savvy woman, but I worry about making a mistake.

Thank you so much!

supertortz,

usually the price difference between RAV4 4 cyl and V6 is
around $2000, from what I have seen.So, 23700 is a good price. I have been offered a quote of $24400 in CO for 2007 RAV4 Base 4x4 V6
with following factory installed options:
Roof rack, 6-CD changer, Cargo Net,
Tonneau cover,
17 inch 5 spoke alloy wheels, Day time running lights and
Tow prep package.

This price includes all charges and fees. I will have to pay
for Tax, Title and registration fee extra. OTD price is a good way to get the idea of how much you really gonna pay.

Got an offer for an 07 RAV4 2X2 base model, (List Price $22,163) of $20,495. This is the second place we have tried and the offer is about $800 better than the last one. Is this as good as we are going to get or can we do better?

Buying in New Jersey. Thanks for your input.

RAV4 Sport V6 4x2 - shifting gear - problem by jasondo

Hi All, I got my rav4 last month, and ever since then, I've been using "4" position for my daily driving. It's been 2000 miles already, and I just had a chance read my manual, and it says it's better using "D" position all the time.

I m really worried if this "4" position thing really hurt the engine or hopefully not at all. Please advice please.

thank you all very much

supertortz.....There are very, very few 06s anywhere in the country. If you could find one, it would probably save you $400-$500 up front but you would lose most or may all of it when you want to sell the car, i.e., in five years an 06 will be worth hundreds less than an 07. To find out if you are getting a good deal, I suggest you check out www.fitzmall.com. When you get to that site, click on the Toyota icon. This brings up a page with all the Toyota models. Select Toyota RAV4 and click on Go. This will bring up their RAV4 inventory. Right now, it lists 35 vehicles. There is a box near the top of the page that says, "Display results by." Click the little arrow to the right of the box and then click on "MSRP." The resulting pages will show their inventory sorted be MSRP. Today, the MSRP range is from $22,200 to $29,200. The delivered internet price listed is the price they are asking for the vehicle. You will need to add your local charges like taxes, title fees, and registration to get the OTD price. What I suggest is to find out the MSRP of the vehicle you are interested in. Then, find a vehicle with a similar MSRP at the fitzmall site. See what fitzmall is asking for a vehicle with the same MSRP. If you can get close to the fitzmall price, you've got a good deal. Good luck.

Lloyd

jasondo.....the only thing it would have hurt would be your mileage. I wouldn't worry about it in the least.

I would say aim for fitzmall prices or a couple of hundred
bucks lower.
