Price help anyone?

I am looking at buying a 04 Z71 loaded up with sun and sound and all the fixings, but I'm really having trouble figuring out Chevy's pricing scheme and what price I should try and negotiate. How much room can dealers come off the sticker on Tahoes? I have seen some posts on here where it looks like people are getting them for less than invoice. Is this possible? Since I will be using the 0% option with $1000 bonus cash, what kind of total price am I looking to pay? The sticker price on most of the Tahoe's I have looked at so far seem to be around $43K. Help from anyone would be appreciated. I'm at a loss at where to start haggling.

Just curious, Edmunds says the invoice price on a base SLE 2004 Yukon is $31,028, and you paid $22,800 - so you paid $8,228 under invoice - correct? I assume that there is no trade in value in your calculation.

Hi, I bought my Z71 for invoice minus holdback. Also, I received the $5000 cash back, $1000 Olds loyalty and $2300 GM card dollars. Thanks to others in this forum, I found a dealer in the Boston area willing to give me the holdback. Most dealers where I live in NJ will give you invoice plus $50 to $200 as a good deal, so it was worth the drive. Never negotiate off of sticker price. Always negotiate from invoice. Edmunds invoice price is accurate except you need to add 1.5% of MSRP (not including the $850 destination charge) to figure out advertising. This shows up as two items on the invoice (one at 1% and one at .5%). Hope this helps.

We live in Tennessee and are thinking about a Tahoe 4WD LT with the only added options being 2nd row bucket seats, and the Safe and Secure Package (side airbags, Onstar, StabiliTrak, and trip computer). The sticker is around $45,900 with invoice 40,147 according to Edmunds. I do not understand the dealer holdback talked about in some messages and am trying to figure out a reasonable price to pay for this vehicle. We have been looking at an Ascender/Trailblazer EXT and have decided that the gas mileage difference is just not that great between the Trailblazer and the Tahoe. The Ascender is much cheaper than the Trailblazer, but we are afraid to take a chance on Isuzu moving out of the US, and there doesn't seem to be much price difference in the Trailblazer and Tahoe when you come right down to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, for GM, holdback equates to 3% of the sticker price, not including the destination charge. Thus, if your sticker is $45,900 (I assume including destination), then it should be $45,050 without destination (the dest. charge on my Tahoe was $850). The holdback amount is then $1351.50. When I was pricing, all dealers added the 1.5% advertising charged to them by GM. In this example, that would be $675.75. If this was my deal, I would pay $40147+675.75-1351.50=$39,471.25, less all incentives. Most dealers I visited wouldn't even discuss holdback. To find one who will, look for one with a large inventory of 2004 leftovers. The 05's are out now and they need to move them out of inventory. The MA dealer had 149 Tahoes on the lot when I bought. My local dealer had 5. The dealer's web site might show inventory. The Chevy dealer locator will allow you to see stickers for the inventory at any dealer you select. That is the way I chose my vehicle. I hope this helps. Good luck with your shopping.

I found Quirk on the Chevrolet sight. I chose SUVs, then Tahoe 4x4, then chose Locate this vehicle. I put in their zip (02184) and their dealership came up. The inventory only shows 50 vehicles, which I think is a limitation of Chevy's website. What I did was use the other website and found vehicles by color/price that I thought closely matched what I was looking for. then I wrote down the VIN and looked it up on the Chevrolet site. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks tauberj for your helpful assistance. I am able to get the gm discount so how does that figure into things? Does that affect the invoice price in any way? Thanks.

Hi, I do not know how your GM discount will factor into your deal. I tried to use a GM discount, but since the GM employee is my wife's cousin, we were not eligible. I think GM has a few different programs (i.e., one or more for employees and one for suppliers). I asked this question when I was pricing and was told that the GM discount price would be better than my deal. Hope this helps and good luck.
